Cervical
Open Mouth
- Top line at the bottom of the top teeth (should be at the same level of occiuput)
- Central ray is at the uvula
A-P cervical
- Light at bottom of mandible—slightly incline head
- Central ray at C4 or C5
- 15°
cephalic—makes ray go through lower disc planes
- collimate 9 inches tall and just wide enough for soft tissues
- want to include lung apices
- can see uncinate processes
- every thing is the same except mAS b/w the two shots
- object film distance—laterals and obliques are at 72 inches to cut down on magnification
- when move object away from the film magnifies the image
Obliques
- want to see cervical foramina
- left posterior looks at the right foramina and angle the tube up
- left anterior looks at the left foramina and angle the tube down
- posterior—marker in front of the spine under the chin at the extreme edge of film
- top of the light is hitting on the ear lobe
- bottom of the light is below the clavicle
- have body at a 45°
angle
- rotate the head slightly (half way to parallel to the film)
- can use this view to look at the peducle on the opposite side
- can see everything on this view
Lateral
- spot film
- arm against bucky is straight up
- central ray at C5 – C7
- what you could not see before
- try 80Kvp at 40 inches
- george's line—at the back of the vertebral body
flexion
- retract the head
- drop head down
