Knee

• Patella
• Bipartite—multiple ossification centers, normal variant, very straight line on x-ray
• Fracture
• Bright cortex
• Jagged fracture
• Light cortex where the fracture
• Congenital—bright cortex, straight line
• Lateral tracking—weakness is vastis medialis
• Patellar squint—lateral displacement of the patella on inspection
• Synovial plica
• Embryological Remnants of synovial partitions of the knee
• Asymptomatic in most
• Elastic tissue
• Medial is most commonly symptomatic
• 15° -30° plica
• can sometimes palpate superior to joint line and medial to patella
• a thickening feeling

• Osteochondritis Dissecans
• Bone/cartilage inflammation to cut apart
• 3 stages
• stage 3—free floating source of bone—joint mouse—Legg-Caviperi Disease—obesity is factor, on knee 6x body weight is stress
• medial femoral condyle (shoulder, elbow and foot)
• stage 1—see fracture but cartilage is intact and is holds it together and heals
• stage 2—fracture line in bone, fracture affecting cartilage but no floating
