Knee
- Patella
- Bipartite—multiple ossification centers, normal variant, very straight line on x-ray
- Fracture
- Bright cortex
- Jagged fracture
- Light cortex where the fracture
- Congenital—bright cortex, straight line
- Lateral tracking—weakness is vastis medialis
- Patellar squint—lateral displacement of the patella on inspection
- Synovial plica
- Embryological Remnants of synovial partitions of the knee
- Asymptomatic in most
- Elastic tissue
- Medial is most commonly symptomatic
- 15°
-30°
plica
- can sometimes palpate superior to joint line and medial to patella
- a thickening feeling
- Osteochondritis Dissecans
- Bone/cartilage inflammation to cut apart
- 3 stages
- stage 3—free floating source of bone—joint mouse—Legg-Caviperi Disease—obesity is factor, on knee 6x body weight is stress
- medial femoral condyle (shoulder, elbow and foot)
- stage 1—see fracture but cartilage is intact and is holds it together and heals
- stage 2—fracture line in bone, fracture affecting cartilage but no floating
