· 5° change in one year is considered a progressive scoliosis
· diversified—do not adjust into the line of the concavity
· can adjust ribs on the concave side
· just make sure not to add stress to the facets
· clinical exam
· scoliosis present—erect, full spine PA x-ray
· Adult (+20 yr.)
· 45° and/or decreased cardiopulmonary status—referral for surgery
· <45°--pain/no pain—manipulate—yearly evaluation
· idiopathic
· adolescent (10-18)
· juvenile (3-10)
· infantile (0-3)—monitor yearly, most spontaneously improve
· 0-20°--monitor every 3-6 months (stable) or progression
· 20-40° brace/manipulate
· 40-50°--unsure
· >50° surgery
Lateral Electric Surface Stimulation (LESS)
· must be an AC stimulator
· must have a pulse width of >200 microseconds
· must be able to adjust frequency to b/w 30 and 50 Hz (pulses/sec)
· must be able to surge the current on and off at 6 to 10 second intervals
· pads placed above and below the apex (almost on midaxillary line)
· worn while sleeping for 8 hrs
· problems is skin irritation and sleep disruption

· compliance is a problem
· psycho/social problems
