Meniscus
Osgood-Schlatter Lesion
- Damage to tibial tuberosity
- Partial evulsion that takes place at patellar ligament (tendon)
- In normal, have growing bone at tibial tuberosity
- Fragmentation of tubercle
- Repetitive injury (like kicking a soccer ball), tight hamstrings
- This is a fracture
- Anti-inflammatory
- Ultrasound (pulsed) anti-inflammatory—don't use over growing bones
- Nonunion can lead to long term in adulthood
- Usually have pain for 1-2 yrs during adolescent growth spurt
- Seen more in males
Bowing and Knock Knee
- Infants are bow legged (vargus)
- When they begin to walk changes to valgus)
- In toddlers have excessive valgus, b/c of poor stability
- Extreme bowing needs to be assessed
Blount's ds
- Tibia vera—most common cause (bow leg)
- Can occur unilaterally or bilaterally
Metatarsus Adductus
- Structural deformity in the foot
- Metatarsals and phalanges are adducted
- Tx is manipulation, taping, braces
- Needs to be caught before weight bearing
- Interanal tibia
- W/in the long bone
Postural Effects of lower limbs
- Frog leg sleeping—external hip
- TV sitting—internal rotation of hip, external at knee
- External hip and internal knee—cross legged
