· Strong joint
· Tibiotalar joint, distal tibfib joint, fibulotalar joint
· Joint is flat to the earth
· Oblique x-ray looks at fibulotalar joint (look at interoseous membrane)
· AP will find fractures (malleolus)
· Osteochondrans Desecans—looks like cartilage is going to pop off in tibiotalar joint
· Most common injured area in sports
· 3 bands—lateral ligament (tibial calcaneous or talus)
· purpose of the ankle—aide in walking (rocking motion)
· normal ROM—faster you move, the less movement of ankle
· normal wear pattern is about in the center
· w/ankle injury—it is smaller and in inferior medial portion (not much cartilage is there)
· osteoarthritis is rare unless chronic sprained ankle or major injury
· forces—body weight distributions
· normal pace is 60 strokes/minute
· no force on heel strike
·
