Research into Philadelphia Cancer

Research into Philadelphia and other chromosomes, is taking place using the F.I.S.H technique.

The researchers at the Royal Free Hospital, London, can see changes in chromosomes using an ordinary microscope and a simple staining technique. But in order to see and lean more about, the changes to the genes in leukemia, they use a technique called

"FLOURESENCE IN SITU HYBRIDIZATION" known as F.I.S.H.

The F.I.S.H can identify those abnormalities that would be invisible by traditional methods. It is therefore vitally important in identifying high-risk leukemias such as Philadelphia, so they may be treated differently.

It identifies new genetic abnormalities, and enables researchers to learn more of the complex mechanism involved in

LEUKAEMOGENESIS
