Father and Mother are back! I’m so glad because I missed them.

Read the passage and answer the questions that follow.
The wet market of Batu
Pahat is a single storey building. It is an old landmark of
Batu Pahat and is situated just beside the Batu Pahat river.
The building is divided
into many sections namely the area for selling fish, the area for selling
‘halal’ meat (beef and mutton), the area for the vegetable stalls, the
area for selling poultry and lastly the ‘non- halal’ enclosure which sells
pork.
It is very crowded and noisy
during the morning. The town folks here prefer to do their marketing
in the early hours of the day manly because the fish, meat and vegetables
are fresher. There are also more choices for them to choose
from. Shoppers who do their marketing in the afternoon will have
only the remnants to choose from. Things are not as fresh but
they are cheaper.
The wet market is now too
small to cater to the 400,000 people in this town. The people here
hope the local authorities will build them a new one just like the
one in Johor Bahru in the near future.

A Chocolate Cake for Uncle Sim
One Sunday morning, Uncle Sim cycled to his nieces’ house. He said,
“Hello, Jenny and Chai Ling. I want to make a chocolate cake today.
May I borrow your recipe book, please?”
Jenny gave Uncle Sim the recipe book. Half an hour later,
he returned.
“I broke my mixing bowl. Please lend me yours,” said Uncle Sim.
He then went off with the bowl. A short while later, he came back
again.
“I don’t have enough eggs. The shops are closed. Please let
me have three eggs,” said Uncle Sim this time.
Uncle Sim went to his nieces’ house eight times that day. He needed
many things for making his cake. His nieces felt so sorry for him.

Sunday, Uncle Sim visited his nieces again. “I am making chocolate
cake again today,’ said Uncle Sim.
