Emotional Support Through Reading
The chronic and capricious nature of scleroderma make this disease particularly hard on those who have it, both physically and emotionally. Support groups often offer a haven where those of us with the disease can gather and give each other moral support and lend each other an empathetic ear.
For those who do not have the luxury of having a support group in their area or those of us who seek additional help, their is a myriad of fantastic self-help books available; however, sometimes the task of sifting out the excellent from the mediocre can be quite a task.
The following is a list of outstanding self-help books that we will use as references for our support group topics in the following months.
Please feel free to write us with other books you have found particularly helpful and we will add those to the list. Make sure to include the author, title, publisher and publishing date so that it will be easier to track down these books. If possible, you might include a brief summary of the book (1 - 5 sentences is fine) and what parts you found particularly helpful or inspiring.
