The visiting in-law. To a married couple, it is the lowest form of humans. So when Blanche Dubois comes to visit her sister and brother-in-law, Stanley Kowalski isn't too thrilled, needless to say. Blanche comes to town, and no one knows why, least of all her little sister, Stella. She comes bearing bad news- Belle Reve, the plantation that Blanche and Stella own, has been lost...but there is no money to show for it, and Stanley is suspicious of Blanche from the start. He tells Blanche that she'd better not hurt Stella...especially since she's pregnant. Which surprises Blanche more than Stanley knows. She promises to leave as soon as possible, but thn Mitch comes into her life. Mitch is Stanley's best friend; they work together. Mitch and Blanche meet at a poker game that Stanley is holding. Blanche turns on the radio, and Stan yells at her to shut it off. She does...for a minute. She turns it back on, and he comes in and throws it out the window. He hits Stella, and Blanche drags her up to the upstairs neighbor's apartment. Stanley then goes out to the stairs, and yells "Hey Stell-aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! Stell-aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!" One of the most powerful scenes in history. Stella comes downstairs into one of the most powerful and erotic scenes ever. The next morning Blanche talks to Stella who says it's nothing. Blanche is sickened, but leaves it at that. Back to Mitch. Mitch and Blanche are instantly smitten with one another, and he begins courting her. But she won't tell him her real age, or background; she's trying to keep her magic alive. One night, Mitch asks her about her life before she came to New Orleans, and she tells him the story of how her young husband shot himself, all because she had told him that she was disgusted with him. Mitch feels sympathy for her, and they return to Stanley's two room apartment. Meanwhile, Stanley has been finding information on Blanche, and her past in Aurial. He learns that the past months haven't been very pleasant for her; in fact, she has been staying at the hotel Flamingo charming men, and keeping her fantasies alive. Now Stanley is pissed off, and he tells Mitch, who doesn't believe him...at first. Then he checks out the story himself, and finds it is true. He confronts Blanche with the story, and she at first denies it, then she admits that most of it is true. He tells her that she isn't clean enough to bring home to his mother, and she threatens to scream "fire" if he doesn't leave right away. And she does. The scene cuts to Blanche screaming in the street, and then her hiding. The picture fades, and Blanche is talking to an imaginary being, wearing a faded Mardi Gras costume. Stanley walks in, with the news that his child should be born the next morning. He sneers at Blance in her Mardi Gras costume, and goes in to change into his silk pajamas. He sprays beer all over himself and the room. Blanche is afraid that he'll "interfere" with her, and tries to get him to stay away. Stanley says he won't interfere with her...then again, maybe she wouldn't be bad to interfere with. Blanche grabs a broken bottle top and threatens to scratch his face to pieces...he grabs her wrist, a mirror breaks, and "tiger, tiger..." the scene fades out after the rape. The scene fades into one where they are playing poker again. This time, Blanche is packing up to meet her "millionaire friend, Shep Huntleigh." Everyone but Blanche knows where she is really going. There is a knock at the door, and the next thing you know, Blanche has always depended on the kindness of strangers. She heads off to the asylum. Mitch threatens to kill Stanley for what he did to Blanche, and Stella will never go near him again. The End.
