SHUTTERS AND BOARDS

Shutters and boards cover the windows
Of the place we used to live
All of the sorrow and heartache it hides
We must learn to forgive

Lord knows I've tried many a day
To return to that wooden place
But I was afraid if I saw it again
Tears would stain my guilty face

What I wouldn't give to see it once more
For once it was my home
But now it is but a sullen shell
Too desolate and alone

But someday I must return to that house
And smooth the splintering wood
For when I remove the shutters and boards
I'll be returning home for good.
