"Can a play show us the very truth and nature of love...?"

Premiered on December 25th, 1998...I saw it on the 28th...

Shakespeare in Love is a story about Shakespeare...in love. Shakespeare (Joseph Fiennes) finds new inspiration in the beautiful Viola (Gwyneth Paltrow) as he writes his play "Romeo and Ethel, the Pirate's Daughter" (later, "Romeo and Juliet"...). Don't go and see this movie if you have no interest in the Shakespearean era, or if you're just going to see it for Ben Affleck. Ben was badly cast as Ned Alleyn, an actor friend of Shakespeare's. Not to say that he was horrible...but the part was so small...

The storyline was good, but the acting skills by many were horrible...Judi Dench, Rupert Everett, Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush were great(!!), Joseph Fiennes was good playing a very similar role to his recent role in Elizabeth, which he does well...but the overall acting in this movie left me with an unsatisfied feeling...sorry to say it.

However, Ben did look mighty fine in that blue outfit near the end!!!

March 21...Shakespeare in Love won an Oscar for BEST PICTURE...among other awards! Congrats!
