Statistics



In addition to vast human resources, large quantities of celluloid, paint, pencils and other materials are consumed in making an animated film. Note the following statistics:


~~~The Black Cauldron was 12 years in the making (five years actual production) at the cost of at least $25 million.


~~~Approximately 2,519,200 drawings have been used: 1,000 inspirational; 75,000 story sketches; 22,000 layouts; 576,000 animators; 1,036,800 inbetweeners; 345,600 assistant animators; 460,800 cels; and 2,000 miscellaneous sketches.


~~~400 gallons of paint (all made from scratch at the Disney studio) have been consumed.


~~~Over 15,000 pensils, 300 erasers and 400 paint brushes will have been used.


~~~1,165 different hues and colors have been implemented.


~~~Over 34 miles of film stock have been utilized.


~~~There are 115,200 frames of film in The Black Cauldron.
