The Witches of Morva

The Witches live in the Marshes of Morva, in a little grass hut. Doli tells Taran and the gang that they have possesion of the Black Cauldron. The witches are more of an annoyance than actual villians. They do try to help Taran, except they want something back for the favor. There are three witches, Orddu, Orgoch, and Orwen.

Orddu is the head witch. She acts like the oldest and Orgoch and Orwen listen to her. Orddu is the tallest witch, with red hair tied back in a blud headband, a blue below-the-knee skirt, big feet, and a rather large warty nose. Compared to the other two, she is the smartest, and she knows how to bargain. Orddu is the witch who wants Taran's magic sword, and trades to cauldron for it. Orddu knows about the cauldron's magic, too. She gloats about their failure to destroy the cauldron and the impossibility of them giving up thier lives to dstroy its magic. Indeed at the end of the film, she wants the cauldron back, for free. But eventually both bargainers get what they want.

Orgoch is the shortest witch. She pays little attention to Taran and his friends when they "pay a little visit". She is more interested in which one of them would make a better meal. And poor Fflewddur is the chosen one. Orgoch likes to eat frogs more than humans, so if it wasn't for Orwen's fancy for Fflewddur, he'd be frog stew. Orgoch is all clad in blue, like Orddu, but she wears a dark blue scarf and hood which she likes to hide her face behind. Orgoch has red hair too, with the long nose to match. Orgoch is the 'witchiest' of the three, with the cackle, magic, and looks to match the steriotype.

Orwen is not like her sisters. While Orddu and Orgoch are toothpick thin, well, Orwen is out-and-out fat. She is dressed in a blue dress, too. But her hair is more of an orange hue than her sisters'. When Taran asks for the Black Cauldron, Orewn is quick to reply the no one has asked for it in two thousand years. Orwen's little eyes, button nose, and poor make-up job tells us that she is in search of a mate, and poor Fflewddur falls into her 'handsome' category. After only a couple of minutes of first seeing him, she proposes marriage. Orwen has to keep on her toes though, because Orgoch wants Fflewddur for dinner. This confict ends up with Fflewddur trapped in Orwen gigantic breasts ( this scene has raised a few eyebrows, let me tell you ). Poor Orewn, she does not recieve Fflewddur in the end, her affection will have to be turned to some other poor soul.
