Gurgi

Gurgi is certainly the most appealing character in the whole film. He's cute, cuddly, and pungent too! He stands about a foot to a foot-and-a-half high, and his appearence is somewhat of a mix between an Ewok and a cocker spaniel. There is only one Gurgi, as explained in the books, there is none other like him. His voice, beautifully created and provided by John Byner, is like no other, except maybe Donald Duck. Gurgi is first seen in the film when he steals an apple from Taran in the Forbidden Forest while he looks for the lost Hen Wen. Gurgi disappears for a good part of the midde of the film, then appears again until the end of the film, where he makes the ultimate sacrifice for his friends.

In many terms, the Disney Gurgi is different from the Alexander Gurgi. In appearence, the Alexander Gurgi is bulky, smelly, and covered in a thick matted hair that is never without a leaf or two mixed in. The Disney Gurgi is limber, covered in a smooth cream colored fur, with a wild mop of white hair and a mustache to match. Brown feet and hands, and a mask similar to a raccoons'. One can't forget the big blue eyes too. In terms of personality, both Gurgi's are very similar. With their talk of "munchings and crunchings" and their fear of "smackings and whackings". The mixture of cowardice and courage. And the ability to add his opinions whenever there is a gap in dialogue.

In many ways Gurgi can be considered a hero. His sacrifice to give his life to save his friends and Prydain. And it is not belittled when Gurgi is resurrected at the end of the film. Knowing that Gurgi gave his life and expected to find death, and finding life instead, is a very fitting conclusion.

loopy and loving, Gurgi is the cutest character in the film.
