Have I Seen This Movie: Yes
And What Did I Think?: Star Trek II is considered by most Star Trek fans to be the best Trek ever. Its easy to see why, too. After the dismal first motion picture, Nicholas Meyer was called in to direct the second adventure and it turned out to be very good indeed. The whole look of the movie was changed from the first one. The Enterprise was changed from the dull colors to a more sleek look. The drab uniforms used in the first picture, were updated to the maroon uniforms used throughout the rest of the movies. The acting here is great, with Shatner and Nimoy giving great performances, especially Spock's death scene. Kirstie Alley hs her film debut here as Saavik, and does a nice job, but she didn't want to return for the third movie and is replaced by Robin Curtis. Ricardo Montalban was the real star here though, giving a stellar performance as Khan who first appeared in the original episode, "Space Seed". After being exiled by Kirk years ago, he returns and is hellbent on revenge. The cat and mouse game between the Enterprise and Reliant in the nebula was great to watch and very tense. Spock's death scene is very touching and it even made me cry the first time I saw it. Kirk's speech at the end was very moving especially how he tries not to break down..... "Of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most..... human". One of my favorite movies of all time.....
