The Talent Behind Yao

Grrr, well, okay these people kinda helped me...a little. I guess if I'm gonna give anyone credit, it would be these guys. At least they had enough sense to make me the tower of physical poweress and intimidation I am. :::strikes a pose::: You know, instead of some thin, pale little weakling...Well, like Ling! Anyway, here's some stuff on them, then we can get back to talking about how I can lift more than pretty boy Shang. Harvey Fierstein, Aaron Blaise, and Phil Boyd.

Harvey Fierstein

The Speaking Voice of Yao

Harvey Fierstein is probably the better known of the Gang's voice actors. He is both an actor and a writer. His career started when he wrote and starred in the play "Torch Song Trilogy"(1983). It won him, not one, but two Tonies--for writing, and acting in. It was certainly not a bad way to start out.

His onscreen acting began in 1984 with the movies "The Times of Harvey Milk" and "Garbo Talks." After he acted in the TV movie "Apology" (1986) he brought his Tony Award winning play to the movies, as well as writing and acting in the TV movie "Tidy Endings".

Harvey is best known for his appearences in "Mrs. Doubtfire"(1993) as Frank, and "Independance Day"(1996) as Marty Gilbert. He also had a notable TV appearence on the popular show "Cheers" playing Mark Newberger. This role nominated him for an Emmy in 1992 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

Harvey has no delusions about his singing voice. Although his rough voice was perfect for the character of Yao, his singing voice...well... "There are no promises," he said reguarding the songs in "Mulan", "and the way I sing...they shouldn't be making any promises!" However, we all know it turned out well. Matthew Wilder (singing voice of Ling) said about Harvey, "...he's very, very colorful."

Aaron Blaise

Yao's Supervising Animator

Aaron Blaise graduated from Disney's animation intern program and first worked for them as an assistant animator for the movie "The Rescuers Down Under". Ironically, Broose Johnson (supervising animator; Ling and Chien-Po) was also working on this film as an assistant animator. It was the first project the two worked on together--and not the last. ;) Nala of "The Lion King" was Aaron's first character under his new role of supervising animator. He also supervised the animation of the Ancestors in "Mulan". A man of many talents apparently, he also voiced the role of Rajah in "Aladdin".

Here is a picture of Aaron hard at work animating Yao. Don't you just love that Maquette?

Other characters Aaron Blaise has worked on:

The Beast ~ Beauty and the Beast
Rajah, Jasmine ~ Aladdin
Pocahontas ~ Pocahontas
Nala ~ The Lion King
