QUOTE OF THE DAY:
Marlena: Driving a little recklessly aren’t you, Celeste? Here, let me help you...

Stefano is pleased to hear that Peter will cooperate with him and goes to meet him. While he is gone, Celeste is confronted by the devil in Marlena, who tells her that Marlena will be dead by the end of the night. Marlena transforms into Kristen in front of Celeste as a sign of her power. Celeste is frightened into helping Marlena and sets off to get her some sunglasses and a telephone. When she returns with the goods, Marlena tells her that Stefano is of no further use to her, and that he will die at John’s hands, damning the priest’s soul to hell forever. Celeste goes to warn Stefano, and is able to escape past Marlena with the help of a crucifix.

Jack borrows a video camera so he can spy on Peter and record his findings. Peter meets with Stefano as arranged in the middle of nowhere and makes it clear he wants to end their relationship forever. He tells his father that he is obsessed with Marlena, not in love with her and that he is to get out of Salem and his life. There is movement in nearby bushes (Jack), but they dismiss it as an animal. Stefano asks Peter to arrange a boat for him to leave in with Marlena. Jack films the meeting, but he does not get a clear shot at Stefano’s face. He follows Peter to the wharf, where he films him meeting with a boatman who is friends with the DiMeras. Afterwards, Jack reveals himself and gloats that he now has the proof he needs. Peter is appalled that he has been followed.

Stefano returns to the lighthouse and wonders where Celeste is. The devil causes Celeste to crash her car and she is injured badly.

Alice meets with Laura and Jennifer at Salem Place. Alice senses that Laura is uneasy and learns that she is keeping a secret from Jennifer. Alice tells her she must tell her daughter the truth and is further confused when Laura sticks up for Jack in a discussion about him. Later, on the pier Laura tells Alice that Clarke was really Jack. and Alice is a bit shocked.

At the police station, Tony is rescued by a cop who works for Stefano and who arranges for the fingerprints to be scrapped conveniently.

At Stefano’s apartment, John and Kristen listen to a CD. Kristen recognises the music and tells John that Stefano used to play it all the time when she was a girl. She remembers a story Stefano used to tell her about a girl who loved the sea and lived on an island on her own, and also something to do with a round room in a round house of light. John receives a call from Marlena, who asks him to help her. He and Kristen put all the clues together and realise Marlena must be at a lighthouse. John makes for the old lighthouse along the road (or something) while Kristen calls Abe and an ambulance. She meets with Tony at Johnny Angel’s and they go together to the lighthouse - Kristen wants to be there when the truth comes out.

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
Peter: Alright. What’s going on?
Tony: All hell’s breaking loose.

At Brady’s pub, Lexie and Abe are celebrating their wedding anniversary. Abe gives Lexie a charm bracelet with a spot especially for a charm given to Lexie by her Aunt Frankie. They discuss how Frankie was a non-conformist and how much Lexie misses her. Caroline gives the couple a cake for their anniversary, and she and Lexie discuss how no one has heard from Frankie. They wonder why she left Salem, and Lexie remembers the woman she saw on the train on the way to the mental health conference (just before Christmas) and how she reminded her of Aunt Frankie. (Suddenly, all this talk of Frankie conveniently before the woman turns up.) Abe gets a call and heads to the lighthouse, while Lexie and Caroline go to the hospital and wait for Marlena to be brought in.

Tony and Kristen are on their way to the lighthouse. Worried that his marriage will be over if the truth comes out about his being in Stefano’s apartment, Tony suggests to Kristen they leave the police to deal with their father. Kristen refuses to refer to Stefano as father anymore, and they pull in at a gas station for directions (and so Tony can call Peter). Kristen fears that Peter may be helping Stefano, and they pass Celeste’s crashed car.

Jennifer meets Alice and Laura on the pier and tells them about Kate’s accident. They lament all the misfortunes that has befallen them and their friends before Alice goes to visit Caroline at the pub (to give Laura and Jennifer a chance to talk). While talking, they hear Peter and Jack arguing along the pier. By the time they arrive to see what the commotion is all about, Peter has grabbed the tape and thrown it in the water. Peter’s phone rings and Jack suspects it’s a dodgy call. It is Tony telling him about their father’s imminent capture. Jack tells Laura and Jennifer that he followed Peter and recorded his meetings and the women are shocked. When Peter gets off the phone, he attempts to explain himself to Jennifer, who is very confused and doesn’t know what to think. Peter eventually is able to offer a reasonable explanation for his strange actions and Jennifer believes him. When they go, Laura tells Jack he’s come a long way since the Meadows, and Jack reminds her that she must keep their secret. After Laura tells Jack that he’s probably wrong about Peter, Jack strips off and dives into the water to retrieve the videotape.

Unable to find Celeste, Stefano prepares to leave without her as the boat arranged by Peter is ready to go. However, the door won’t budge (thanks to Marlena) until John arrives and the two enemies are face to face. John examines Marlena and is furious to find that she is barely alive. Stefano insists he hasn’t given any drugs to her, but the two fight, much to the devil’s delight. John comes very close to killing Stefano when the devil wills him to think of all the wrong Stefano has done to him, but Kristen and Tony arrive in time to break it up. Abe and the ambulance arrive and Stefano is arrested while Marlena is packed off to hospital.

Peter and Jennifer go to Brady’s pub and Alice tells them about the situation with Stefano and Marlena. Peter reassures Alice that he has nothing to do with his father anymore, while Jennifer can’t wait to prive Jack wrong, which makes Peter uneasy. Alice is dismayed when she deduces that Laura can’t have told Jennifer about her affair with Jack.

While Caroline and Lexie are speaking further about Aunt Frankie, Celeste is wheeled in on a gurney. Later, when Caroline hears her moaning and there are no nurses about, Caroline offers to help her. She is shocked when Celeste turns her head to face her - it is Aunt Frankie! (Who else could it have been after that sort of lead up?) Just as Caroline goes to tell Lexie, Marlena is brought in. Amidst the chaos surrounding her arrival, Caroline runs into Stefano, who swears he’s not responsible for Marlena’s condition. All of a sudden, Marlena flatlines...

Marlena’s pulse returns, but she is still not out of the woods. Mike tells John that Marlena’s red cell count is so low she shouldn’t even be alive and that she may not even make it through the night. John tries to find out off Stefano what drug he’s been feeding Marlena, but he won’t talk (because he hasn’t been feeding her anything). Mike tells them that there is only one more unit of Marlena’s blood type left. Much to everyone’s dismay, the only option is to let Stefano give his blood to Marlena, as he is the only person there with her blood type. Despite concerns that he is giving her too much, Stefano is determined to keep her alive. Perhaps he really does love Marlena? Eventually, she is able to pull through.

Abe makes it clear that Stefano is going to jail as soon as a doctor checks him out. While he is being examined, Kristen confronts him and slaps him. She tells him he no longer has a daughter.

Celeste comes to and recognises her old friend Caroline. Abe comes along and Caroline is devastated to learn that Celeste is Stefano’s helper. Celeste tells her she never meant to hurt anyone, but Caroline will never forgive her. She begs Caroline not to tell Lexie that she is there. Later, Lexie (of all people!) gets really worked up when she thinks that someone would help Stefano and decides she wants to confront Celeste, despite Caroline’s protestations. She is shocked when she discovers her Aunt Frankie, but delighted nevertheless to have her back. Abe is suitably bothered.

Emily is about to tell Austin about Carrie’s whereabouts but Tyrone enters the diner and threatens her and Bea. Later, Austin sees Carrie’s promise ring around Emily’s neck.

Carrie pretends to be asleep in her cell, and when Tyrone enters, she hits him over the head (with something which appears to be a jaffle maker). As she makes good her escape, Tyrone comes to, but Austin arrives just in time to save her. Though Tyrone gets away, Austin and Carrie embrace and kiss.

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
(The last words of Patrick Muldoon.)
Austin: It’s just so complicated. When I held you in my arms today, when we were together again, it was like all our problems just went away. It was like, you know, like... like things were... were normal again, like they were back the way they were. The way that I dreamed they’d be again. And I just wanna know if maybe you had dreams like that?... Carrie? (She has fallen asleep.) I guess it’s just the same, because the problems that tore us apart are not gonna go away by wishing. Until we find Sami and resolve what happened, our being together is gonna be just that. A dream...

Austin (Patrick Muldoon in his last ever appearance) apologises to Carrie for kissing her. They decide they need to talk. Emily and Bea arrive and warn them that Tyrone will come after them. When Austin and Carrie leave, Emily tells Bea that she thinks she knows something about Sami. Bea tells her that she must tell Austin and Carrie. Later, Carrie makes a list of contacts, but Austin wants to go home - if there were any leads they would have found them by now. Emily visits and tells them that she did meet a girl who said that she should call someone called Caroline if she were to hear of her in any trouble. Sami was last seen with a bunch of Tyrone’s girls. They decide to wait until morning and resume their search then. Austin gives Emily the key to his room and he stays in Carrie’s.

Bo, Billie and Lucas await news on Kate at the Kiriakis mansion. Bo is proud of Billie for reaching out to Lucas. Billie is determined to find answers, and when she overhears Ivan referring to something he and Vivian are responsible for, she confronts them. Vivian is able to explain her way out of it, though, and tells Billie that she was reading too much into Kate’s letter. Victor returns from searching, determined to go back out once he checks on Phillip. He has become manic. They learn from one of the men in charge of the search that Kate’s chances of survival are almost non-existent and that the search is to be called off if nothing comes up in an hour. Lucas wants them to keep looking, and Victor arranges a private search team. Billie re-reads her letter from Kate and discusses her suspicions with Lucas. He is sure Kate is alive, and Billie is disgusted to see Vivian fawning over Victor. Steve, the pilot, visits and hands Victor his resignation. He explains his confusion, as he drank a gallon of coffee and still fell asleep. Billie deduces he must have been on drugs. Victor checks to see if he was tested, but the tests show nothing. There is no proof, but it doesn’t rule drugs out. Or something.

Bo goes to the hospital and asks Caroline to talk to Victor. She tells Shawn that she’ll only do it if he wants her to. He tells her he doesn’t mind, and they go over to the house. Victor is insistent that Kate is coming home, though. All present are hopeful when news arrives that something has been found in the water. However, it is only Kate’s jacket. The search is now over and Kate is officially presumed dead.

Billie’s suspicions grow when she sees Vivian drinking to calm her nerves. Caroline tells Victor he should accept that Kate is gone, and Victor tells her that his life is nothing without her. Vivian overhears this and is determined that Victor will have a wonderful life - with her.

Celeste is to be arrested. Abe tells Lexie he can’t forgive her aunt, and she suggests that perhaps Celeste was forced to help Stefano. Lexie asks Abe to go easy on Celeste when he takes her statement, but she is uncooperative anyway. When Abe leaves, Lexie tells Celeste she’ll help her if she can. They talk about their fond memories of one another, and when they hug, Abe re-enters the room and is unimpressed. She will not give a statement to the police, so Abe orders that her release papers are signed and she is taken downtown. Abe apologises to his wife, but he had no choice. He tells Lexie that Celeste denying what she’s done in the past isn’t going to help anyone.

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
Jack: Laura! Oh, hi, Mrs Horton. Hey, I managed to salvage a few frames.
Alice: Well, hello Jack. Now, speak English. What are you talking about? Salvaging a few frames...

Lexie bails out Celeste. Abe is very upset with his wife for doing so.

While trying to distance himself from Stefano, Peter receives a phone call from him. He expects Peter’s help within the hour, though Celeste tells him that Peter will not help him. Stefano intends to use Laura Horton to get Peter to come to his aid. He gives Celeste a note to deliver to Jennifer, detailing Peter’s gaslighting of Laura.

Jack watches the tape with Laura and Alice, but they are unable to identify anything due to the damage caused when Peter threw it in the water. Later, when Jennifer gets home, she is confident that the man on the tape with Peter is not Stefano. In order to get her message through to Jack, she asks Peter to propose to her in front of him and she accepts.

At the hospital, Mike and Laura are happy that Marlena is recovering, but Mike has nothing to do with her getting better. He tells his mother that he helped Stefano get into Marlena’s apartment.

Father Francis points out the word ‘succubus’ in the dictionary to some nurses. It means a demon in female form said to have sexual intercourse with sleeping men. The nurses dismiss it as a mistake, but it was, in fact, a warning for John. Indeed, the devil plans to use Marlena’s body to deliver John’s soul to hell. She induces a memory of love in John’s mind. John brings Belle to visit Marlena, but the child cries incessantly in her mother’s presence. Meanwhile, Father Francis prays to God to help John resist temptation. He must look into her eyes to discover the truth.

Marlena’s spirits are lifted when John tells her about Gina’s acceptance into police academy. Her mood takes a downward turn when Mike comes in to examine her eyes...
