Jennifer asks Jack where he’s been and refuses to believe he’s been staying at the kitchen. She reckons he has an ulterior motive, but he tells her to believe whatever she wants. If she doesn’t want to take him back, he gives up. He tells her he finally got the picture and is facing the truth. She tells him she never really wanted to hurt him and apologises. He tells her of how he came to be at the kitchen, and that real change happens slowly. She is amazed at him and wishes him the best. She finishes her report and waits for Jack to clean himself up so she can give him a ride home.

Peter is at Jennifer’s house planning renovations to the house in Aremid. Alice visits, and soon afterwards Laura and Daniel arrive back from their trip to Europe (which they left for no more than three days ago, their time). Daniel announces that he plans to stay in Salem. Peter is not impressed. He goes to "unpack the bags" with Daniel and tells him to get out of Laura’s life and Salem today. Peter gets even more angry when Daniel tells him that he’s stuck with him unless he wants Jennifer to find out about him gaslighting Laura. While Alice, Laura and Abby are upstairs, Daniel asks for a few thousand dollars for now, but Peter tells him he’s getting one last payment and leaving Salem. Jennifer and Jack arrive home and before they enter the house, Jennifer asks Jack to try and get along with Peter. Daniel deems Peter’s deal to be unsatisfactory as Jennifer and Jack enter the house. Jennifer tells Peter about Jack and the soup kitchen and that Jack has changed. Peter is not so sure. When Jennifer leaves the room, Daniel insists on finishing his transaction with Peter now, or he won’t marry Jennifer.

Upstairs, Laura confides in Alice that she’s not in love with Daniel, but Jack instead. Jack enters and tells Laura about the soup kitchen and that he’s seen the error of his ways. He’s through with tricks. Later, Jennifer tells Jack it’s too late for them, but she hopes that someone else is lucky enough to appreciate their good fortune with Jack.

Mike goes to see Marlena and initially refuses to believe that she was levitating, but he looks into her eyes and finally accepts the truth. Francis and John fill him in and ask him to keep it quiet. John prays for Marlena and she comes to and asks why someone would want to hurt her like this. They sedate her and Francis hopes the sedatives are strong enough. He goes on to tell Mike and John that he has performed successful exorcisms before. Marlena wakes again and complains that the bindings around her wrists are too tight and she’s bleeding. Caroline arrives and is assured that Marlena is getting the best care possible and she can’t see her. Francis and Mike reenter Marlena’s bedroom as John is about to untie the second binding and Francis tells him it’s ONE OF THE DEMON’S TRICKS and warns him to be on his guard. Mike goes to sedate her again. Francis tells them they need permission to perform an exorcism from the Bishop - their request can’t be granted without proof. However, the Bishop is not convinced by Francis and John.

Back at the apartment, Caroline returns and the door swings open automatically. She enters. In the bedroom, Marlena makes a lamp fly across the room and knock Mike out cold. By the time Caroline arrives, the bedroom looks like the scene of a break-in, and this is what Marlena tells her has happened. She gets Caroline to put her glasses on so she can’t see her eyes and Caroline begins to untie her...

Cast (in alphabetical order):
John Aniston (Victor Kiriakis), Eric Christmas (Father Francis), Christie Clark (Carrie Brady), Roark Critchlow (Mike Horton), Bryan Dattilo (Lucas Roberts), Ivan G’Vera (Ivan Marais), Deidre Hall (Marlena Evans), Drake Hogestyn (John Black), Peggy McCay (Caroline Brady), Austin Peck (Austin Reed), Louise Sorel (Vivian Alamain)

A couple of pieces of banter from Vivian and Lucas in this episode:

"Guess who’s living together, Vivian?" - Lucas
"Millions of people, Lucas, but I can’t keep track of all of them." - Vivian, and...

"I know how I’m gonna impress Carrie." - Lucas
"Oh God, I hope it isn’t too obvious." - Vivian

Despite being annoyed that Carrie and Austin have moved in together, Lucas is reminded by Vivian that he must pretend to be happy for them. He congratulates them. Later, Vivian reminisces about Victor asking her to marry him. Victor enters and tells her he’s very impressed with her work. She gives him a birthday present and tells him there’s a celebration later, which he foregoes, but thanks her for anyway. Later, Vivian admits she’s at the end of her tether - she’s overcome all the aostacles so far so it shouldn’t be too hard, but she just can’t get to Victor.

Carrie and Austin dress up in twenties-style clothes from a photo shoot at Titan and dance and just generally celebrate their love.

Lucas enters Vivian’s office and goes ballistic. He tells Vivian she has to do something to break Carrie and Austin up soon. He accuses her of stalling and she tells him they must move carefully. He tells her he knows exactly how he’s going to impress Carrie: he’s going to give her a pre-wedding present from the twenties photo shoot set. He goes to get it, and Vivian admits to Ivan that she hasn’t got any idea how she’s going to break Carrie and Austin up. She leaves to get Victor a better present - Phillip. He’s still working on his birthday and although not really up for a big celebration, he’s happy to see his son. Ivan and Vivian sing "Happy Birthday" to Victor and he thanks them for making his day so enjoyable. Ivan tells Vivian he can see she’s getting attached to the child.

Lucas comes upon Carrie and Austin’s set up and finds that they are in the back of a car on the set making love. Later, they tell him he’s wonderful and they ask him to be Austin’s best man. Shocked, he agrees. He then tells Vivian she’s got twenty-four hours to show that her plan’s working or he’ll tell Victor everything.

John tells the Bishop he can’t accept his decision. Father Francis tells John to calm down and suggests to the Bishop that he comes to Marlena’s apartment to see her for himself. This, however, is not correct procedure. John and Francis tell him of what the demon has been responsible for and he eventually agrees to visit Marlena.

The phone rings at Marlena’s apartment and Marlena tells Caroline not to answer it and to untie her. It is John calling, and his suspicions are aroused when Mike doesn’t pick up. He then tries Mike’s pager, the beeping of which distracts Caroline. Marlena continues to hassle her to untie her hands. When Mike doesn’t answer his pager, John, Francis and the Bishop head over to the apartment. On the way, the Bishop suggests that perhaps there’s something else wrong with Marlena.

Mike begins to groan and Caroline goes to help him. Marlena tells her not to move him as he might be hurt and that she’ll help him when she unties her. She unties one hand and checks on Mike, while Marlena unties the other hand herself. By the time Mike comes around, Marlena is floating in the air above them. Caroline thinks she’s dreaming and Marlena begins speaking in another language. Mike tries to pull her down, but he is thrown across the room. Caroline goes to get John but Marlena appears downstairs and stops her.

John, Francis and the Bishop arrive at Marlena’s apartment and find it in a mess. There is something blocking the door to Marlena’s room - it is the unconscious Mike. They manage to get inside the room and they come upon an alarming scene: Caroline is unconscious on the bed, Mike is unconscious on the floor and Marlena is hovering in the air speaking in tongues...

The Bishop decides that Marlena is indeed possessed. Marlena speaks in Greek, Latin and Hebrew and the demon invites John to come and fight for Marlena’s soul, but vows that he will not be able to save her. They have trouble bringing the floating Marlena down. She is eventually weakened by Holy Water and sedated by Mike. They tie her down again and the Bishop grants permission for an exorcism. Caroline agrees to be present for the ordeal to attend to Marlena’s needs. John is to perform it as Francis is too old and frail.

Later, John goes out onto the terrace and addresses Gabe. He wishes he were here to help. Francis is regretful he can’t guarantee to John they’ll win the battle. Marlena’s body may not be strong enough He recommends they make peace with God - all their lives and salvations are being put on the line.

Bo, Billie, Gina and Craig go out for dinner. Billie speaks to Victor. They discuss Billie’s plan to pair Gina with Craig and Victor tells Billie that Bo’s very lucky to have her as a wife.

Austin and Carrie meet Jonah and Wendy at Titan. They tell them of the arrangements made so far for the wedding. They all wonder where Sami is. Austin and Jonah exchange knowing glances. Meanwhile, in Seattle, two girls (one of whom is Ashley) discuss how strange Sami has been behaving. They go to look for her and suggest to each other they try a couple of clubs. Later, they return. They found her and she was apparently hatching an idea and in a bad mood.

Austin tells Jonah that he’ll tell Carrie about Sami. Carrie asks Wendy if she’ll be a bridesmaid. She agrees, and Carrie decides to go and see Marlena. [She doesn’t, though. I can’t remember why or even if a reason was given for her change of mind.] Victor tells Austin and Carrie that he and Kate discussed holding their wedding reception at the Penthouse Grill, and he insists on doing so still. The couple are thrilled. Victor sends the foursome up to the Grill for a free meal. Wendy tells Jonah she can’t afford to buy a bridesmaid’s dress.

Alice, Mickey and Maggie are out to tea at the Grill as well. Alice asks Gina for an update on the puzzlebox situation. Mickey and Maggie tell Alice that Gina has to get on with her life. Alice, however, insists that Gina is Hope and tells them she can prove it. Meanwhile, said puzzlebox is being kicked around a back alleyway by some kids who put it in the rubbish bin.

Jonah tells Wendy he’ll buy her the dress. She can’t accept this. Luckily, just as Carrie overhears them discussing this, Alice, Mickey and Maggie come up to their table - they are going to make the dresses for the wedding, thus saving vast amounts of cash. Austin asks Jonah when he’s going to propose to Wendy.

Billie worries because Craig and Gina aren’t talking. Bo picks up on Billie’s vibes and realises that his wife is still feeling threatened by Gina. Gina tells Craig she doesn’t think it’s gonna work. She agrees to give it another chance though and dances with him. Billie is relieved about this. Later, Bo lectures Craig and tells him he’ll be very angry if he hurts Gina as a lot of people in Salem care about her. Billie wants to go home and leave Craig and Gina alone to bond. She fakes a headache and her and Bo go home, where he notices her headache has disappeared and is upset with her for lying.

Craig tells Gina what Bo said to him and she’s touched to hear of Bo’s protectiveness. They call it a night. On his way home, Craig finds the puzzlebox and takes it.

An episode of to-ings and fro-ings at the police station and the television studio. And the pier.

Craig tells Bo that he and Gina really connected at dinner last night. Billie gets some flowers from Bo, but they are actually for Gina. Fortunately, the flowers are from Craig, not Bo. Everyone is relieved. Craig can’t wait to show Gina the puzzlebox he found. [God knows why?] Billie encourages Gina to accept another date with Craig. Craig calls and Gina accepts the date.

Peter is sure that Jack is working on a new plan to break him and Jennifer up. Jennifer asks Peter to give Jack a break, but he tells her he doesn’t buy this changed Jack.

Laura is run off her feet at the police station. The heat wave seems to have accelerated criminal activity. Daniel drops by with breakfast and photos from their trip to Europe. He invites her to have dinner with him tonight. Laura tells Alice that Jack will never give up pursuing Jennifer. Alice thinks Laura’s making a mistake by not telling Jennifer about her affair with Jack. Laura insists she is committed to forgetting about Jack through her relationship with Daniel. Alice then tells Laura about the missing puzzlebox, and how it will prove that Gina is Hope.

Daniel calls Peter while he’s with Jennifer and arranges to meet him on Pier 9 in an hour.

Billie visits Jennifer at the studio to take her for lunch. Jennifer is too busy, but is able to take a short break to talk to Billie. They discuss Jack’s change and Jennifer and Peter’s engagement. Billie isn’t sure Jennifer is ready to marry Peter and asks her if she’s really over Jack. She insists she certainly is, and Billie tells her she just wanted to make sure she wasn’t making a big mistake. She is sure that Jack is a changed man, but Jennifer affirms that she loves Peter and that Jack isn’t for her, not anymore. Billie apologises, and Jennifer introduces her to one of her guests for the show who has written a book on cooking romantic meals for your partner (or something). She gives Billie some tips and Billie rushes home to cook dinner for Bo. She has two hours before he finishes work.

Alice talks to Bo. They discuss Gina and Craig. Bo is glad Gina is going out and is no longer holding onto the possibility that Gina is Hope. Alice asks him what he’d do if Gina was Hope. He tells her it’s not going to happen because Gina isn’t Hope. Billie is his wife now. Alice has a feeling that seeing Gina with other men is going to be more difficult for Bo than he thinks. Bo leaves work early, and arrives home before Billie has managed to finish dinner. She tells him to go back to work, but he won’t.

Craig is about to show Gina the puzzlebox at the station, but she is called away to so something else.

Later, she tells Alice they haven’t heard anything about the puzzlebox. Things are looking grim, but she’ll keep trying, just for Alice. Little beknownst to them, it is in Craig’s locker, right behind them. Later, Craig has to cancel his date with Gina, who is relieved, as she didn’t really want to go in the first place.

Jack visits Laura at the station. He needs her help. He can’t stop worrying about Jennifer’s involvement with Peter. Laura tells him his instincts are wrong, but he is sure Daniel is the key to bringing Peter down. Laura tells him that Daniel isn’t involved in anything shady.

Daniel and Peter meet on the pier. Daniel knows it’s way too risky for Peter to exterminate him, but Peter tells him not to be so sure. Daniel asks Peter for his credit card.

Jennifer and Jack are filming their show and are forced to pretend they are a romantic couple for the show’s guest, who gets Jennifer to feed Jack, something she is uncomfortable with. At home, Laura and Daniel watch the show. Peter arrives and sees what’s going on on the television. He’s bought Abby a teddy bear, which is outdone by a huge one which Daniel bought her. Daniel notes with reference to the television that he is not the only threat to Peter’s relationship with Jennifer. Back at the studio, Jennifer’s guest insists she kisses Jack to top off the meal. Peter watches on in horror...

Kristen has a dizzy spell. She calls Dr Bader to reschedule an appointment. John visits and tells her and Tony about the events so far. Father Francis then arrives and tells them he wants Kristen present during the exorcism. John and Tony forbid this as it is too risky. Francis tells them he realises this, and wouldn’t ask if he didn’t think it was imperative. Kristen wants to help Marlena and agrees. Francis ensures Kristen is physically well, as the exorcism may go for a long time and will be exhausting. He also asks her if her soul is cleansed and pure, and she tells him it is - now.

Billie tells Bo to go away while she prepares his surprise. She stuffs it all up, and Gina arrives home to save the meal. Billie cleans herself up while Gina dreams that it is herself who is dining that night with Bo. Bo gets home. Billie tells Bo how Gina fixed everything for dinner. Craig calls and apologises again for breaking the date, but she makes it look to Bo and Billie like he hasn’t and gets ready to leave the lovers to their meal. She goes to the pier.

Peter watches Jennifer and Jack kiss on television. Peter tells Daniel to mind his own business. At the studio, Jennifer tells Jack she didn’t feel anything when they kissed. Soon afterwards, Jack arrives home and Peter bustles Daniel off out the back before Jack can see them together. He forces Daniel to take Laura out to dinner so he can hatch a plot to trap Jack. Later, when Jennifer gets home, he tries to get a rise out of Jack, but he fails to raise his temper. Jennifer is surprised to hear that Jack isn’t going out, but Jack tells them he IS going out, thwarting any plans Peter had to make him jealous.

Celeste tells Stefano to leave Marlena’s salvation to the priests. They go to the DiMera house so Stefano can insist that he’s involved with the exorcism. They run into John outside the house, and he tells them to go away. He and Stefano get into a fight and Tony and Kristen rush out. John tells Stefano that if he goes anywhere near Marlena he’ll answer to him. Tony and Kristen both agree with John and tell Stefano to stay out of it.
