Tony: You know, I can’t even begin to speculate what’s Marlena’s problem.
Kristen: Well, John thinks that it’s father.
Tony: Yeah, well, if John caught a cold he’d blame father.
Marlena is bothered by Kristen’s rosary. She goes to page the nurse, but the button flies out of reach. When she climbs out of bed to get help, the wardrobe moves and blocks the doorway. When the nurse arrives, Marlena pleads for John and Mike.
Laura continues to worry that Jennifer will find out about her affair with Jack. Jack is convinced that he will be able to win Jennifer back. He also wonders why Jennifer was trying so hard to find Clark, but Laura tells him she never asked Jennifer to find him.
Peter apologises to Jennifer and they reconcile. He tells her that though he has found out nothing about Clark, he has persuaded Dr Perkins to come on her show. Peter interprets the letter from Clark differently - it doesn’t actually say he doesn’t want to see Laura again. He suggests to Jennifer that perhaps he didn’t want to burden Laura with his problems. Jennifer calls Laura at the hospital and invites her to come and see the show. Before she leaves, she speaks to Mike and he tells her about the phone call from his blackmailer. She tells him secrets are dangerous things and that she’s sure he’ll do the right thing.
Jennifer calls Jack and tells him to hurry to the studio as they have a special guest (she doesn’t reveal who it is). Laura arrives at the studio and is shocked to see Dr Perkins. Panicked, she goes to find Jack to warn him, but he hasn’t got time to talk. The taping begins and Jack and Dr Perkins are alarmed to see each other.
As Stefano threatens Mike over the telephone, Celeste considers the consequences if Mike knew that his blackmailer was Stefano and that he was living next door to Marlena. When he hangs up, Stefano tells Celeste to get out, as she refused to make the call for him. She pleads with him to let her stay, and tells him she gave up everything for him, but he still kicks her out.
Tony is unsettled to hear that John is investigating Marlena’s apartment. He visits Stefano, hoping to persuade him to leave town, and ridicules him for thinking Marlena is in love with him.
John enlists the help of the superintendant of Marlena’s apartment block. He asks him for a list of tenants and is interested to know more about the renovations to the apartment next door. Kristen arrives and tries again to convince John that her father isn’t to blame. The superintendent turns up with a list of tenants, and Mike arrives and confesses that he gave out the security code.

Carrie and Austin arrive in Los Angeles. Carrie calls Caroline and tells her that Sami ran away and they are looking for her. Lexie speaks to Carrie and tells her she has friends in the LA PD who can help them. Later, Austin tells Carrie that she’s not the reason Sami ran away. She, in turn, tells him that she doesn’t trust him because of the lipstick on his pillow. Lexie’s friend from the PD, Detective Ross, meets up with them and he is concerned when he sees how pretty she is, and warns Austin and Carrie that she may be forced into prostitution. Later, they talk to some unhelpful street girls.
There is a scream from Marlena’s hospital room, but initially the door won’t open. When it does, Lexie and Caroline try to calm Marlena.
Stefano tells Tony not to worry and that John will never find him, but Tony threatens to turn his father into the police if he doesn’t leave town. He points out that John Black will go after him if he takes Marlena away.
John is furious with Mike for giving out the security code. Kristen, however, still doesn’t believe John’s theory. They go to meet the next-door neighbour and Stefano overhears Mike explaining his actions in the corridor. When there is no answer, John and Mike proceed to break the door down, but are stopped by the building’s security guard. Mike’s beeper goes off and he makes for the hospital.
After examining the building’s blueprints, he realises that Marlena’s armoire is attached to the wall. Next door, Tony realises that Stefano must have had a secret entrance into Marlena’s apartment, just as John attempts to break through the armoire. He urgently implores his father to leave.
Jennifer is bemused to learn that Dr Perkins and Jack are acquainted. Jack is able to prevent Dr Perkins from revealing anything about his time at the Meadows by reminding Jennifer of the patient confidentiality policy. Jennifer is angry that Jack made a fool of her, but Dr Perkins speaks to Laura and realises just how close she came to blowing her secret. The doctor tells her that complete honesty is the only way out of the situation.
When Jennifer questions Jack about why he knows so much about the Meadows, he claims to have done some research. Peter later suggests that he may have been lying and that he may have been a guest there. Jennifer says that it is impossible. Elsewhere is the studio, Laura tells Jack that there’s nothing wrong with Peter and that he’s proven that he’s nothing like Stefano.

Billie cooks dinner for Bo, but she finds him asleep. In his slumber, he says Gina’s name. When he wakes, he tells her that Gina’s personality profile is identical to Hope’s. Bo’s beeper goes off just as they are about to begin their romantic evening together.
At the hospital, Alice is thrilled to hear this news. Gina turns up for her physical examination for the Police Academy. Later, she is dismayed when she realises she might not even be able to be a cop - she’s unable to answer the questions on her application about her background.
Stefano is shocked when he realises John is trying to break through the armoire into his apartment. As there is a security man in the hall, he and Tony are unable to escape. Just as Stefano is about to attack the guard, the lights go out (thanks to Celeste). John and Kristen break through the wall and find Stefano’s lair. Kristen can’t believe it. Father and son make good their escape and Tony tells Stefano that if he ever shows his face again, he will turn him into the police. Stefano and Celeste depart before Kristen and John find Tony.
The devil taunts Marlena and tells her to give up the fight. Later, Kristen admits to Mike and Lexie that she was wrong about the spiritual nature of Marlena’s illness. She spots the rosary under Marlena’s bed and returns it to her.
Billie and Gina meet by chance and Gina tells Billie that she can’t be cop because she has no background information about herself. Billie tells Gina she will help her find her true identity.
Stefano and Celeste arrive at the hospital and, after nearly being discovered by Alice and Abe, realise it is sealed off. Nevertheless, he is devising a way to take Marlena right from under John’s nose. Meanwhile, Billie and Gina arrive at the hospital and are delighted to hear there’s an APB out on Stefano.
After following a girl who looked like Sami, Carrie and Austin are watched by a pimp, Tyrone. They book separate rooms in a dingy motel.

Kate tells Victor about a dream she had in which Vivian stole her baby, but Victor tells her she has nothing to worry about and that she is letting her suspicions get the best of her. When Kate tells him that Marlena doesn’t trust Vivian either, he reminds her that Marlena is very ill at the moment. He suggests they arrange a nice trip for Vivian while other living arrangements are made for her. Meanwhile, Vivian is downstairs planning to redecorate the house. Later, she watches her wedding video, much to Ivan’s panic that someone might come in and see it.
Celeste continues to plead with Stefano to leave town, but he won’t without Marlena. Celeste reminds him that Marlena is under heavy guard and that he would be risking a great deal to get to her. Stefano, however, recalls Marlena stripping bare for him at Maison Blanche.
At the hospital, Abe has got Interpol looking for information on the “Swiss businessman” who lived next door to Marlena. Plans are also underway to have Marlena moved to a safehouse. Pat Hamilton arrives and is very sceptical that Marlena is the victim of one of Stefano’s plots, especially as he is supposed to be dead. When asked, Tony tells her he hasn’t seen his father. The report on the fingerprints arrives and they match Stefano’s. Abe is able to talk Pat around to cooperating. It is concluded that the second set of prints is Celeste’s. Tony is worried about the police tracing the third set of fingerprints back to him, especially when Kristen says that she wants to know who they belong to so she can tell him she hates him.
Tony calls Stefano and tells him to leave Salem. Stefano is disturbed to hear that Marlena is to be moved to a safehouse, but Tony tells him again that he will turn him into the police if he comes near Marlena.
Vivian overhears Victor arguing with an associate on the telephone, and when Kate runs out of the room crying (she has ash in her eye from the fire) Vivian jumps to the conclusion that there’s marital problems. This is worsened when Victor comes out and tells her about the trip, which she readily agrees to, assuming she will be accompanied on by him while Kate moves out of the house.
Billie goes to work to get her mind off Gina and the possibility that she is Hope. Part of her wishes Stefano would stay missing so that he is unable to confirm her fears. There, she meets Kate, who asks her to go to dinner with her to celebrate the fantastic new sales figures. Billie tells Kate of her fears, and she tells her that she knows exactly how she feels. Kate admits to Billie that she doesn’t trust Vivian, and her daughter tells her to fight her for the man she loves. When she gets home, Kate is surprised to learn that Vivian was very understanding of their plans to send her away.
Ivan goes to pick up Vivian’s stationery (which has Mrs Vivian Kiriakis printed on it) only to learn that it has been delivered to Mrs Kiriakis (ie Kate).
As a medical team is put together to accompany Marlena to the safehouse, John receives a tip off to go to Room 348 at the Riverview Inn. When he and Bo get there, the room is empty, but there is someone in the bathroom...

Celeste emerges from the bathroom and is arrested.
Gina spots Stefano in Salem Place. She loses track of him, though he arrives home in time to see Celeste being taken away by Bo and John.
Ivan arrives in time to stop Kate opening the package containing Vivian’s stationery. Vivian is able to talk her way out of the situation, saying that the box contains Kate’s wedding gift. However, a piece of the paper falls out of the box at the bottom of the stairs, which Kate later finds. She and Victor ask Vivian for an explanation, but Vivian is able to explain it away melodramatically, claiming it was the only thing salvaged from the ruins of her house and that Nikki gave it to her in anticipation of her marrying Victor. Before leaving for a business meeting in Bermuda, Victor tells Vivian to concentrate on the future, which she misunderstands again. Kate suspicions are aroused again when she overhears Vivian telling Ivan that Kate will never know the truth.
Tony tells Peter that Stefano is about to be arrested. The two men realise that they will lose the women they love if they ever found out about their involvement with Stefano. They arrive home, only to find their father, who wants their help. He forces Peter to go and act as Celeste’s attorney by threatening to tell Jennifer what he did to Laura. Stefano then reminds Tony that he replaced Kristen’s birth control pills, and Tony tells his father that he hopes the police get him.
Jack tells Jennifer that all DiMeras are alike, but Jennifer is outraged. He tells her that she deserved better from him, but now he’s changed. She tells him she’ll never trust him again. Kristen arrives and tells Jack that Peter is nothing like Stefano. The trio hear that someone has been arrested and head to the police station.
Celeste claims to know nothing, but she is about to warn them of the real evil in Salem when Gina bursts in. She is shocked to see Celeste and tells Bo and John about seeing Stefano in Salem Place. Police are sent out to search for him. Gina suggests that Celeste might talk to her, but Celeste simply tells her that Stefano has reasons for doing what he does. Gina pleads with her to help them as Stefano is the only person who knows who she really is. Celeste apologises - her loyalty is to Stefano. Peter arrives and tells them to stop harrassing his client. Because of the partial fingerprint, they have no positive proof against Celeste. John and Bo are confused as to why Peter would help Celeste, and when Jennifer, Kristen and Jack arrive, they are too. Jack is quick to say “I told you so” but when John tells Celeste she is free to go, Peter and Jennifer go to talk while Kristen and Gina go for coffee.
Celeste is annoyed with Stefano - she is sure he will be caught
Peter tells Jennifer that he couldn’t let Celeste suffer for all of Stefano’s evil actions and that he has washed his hands of his father. Jack is sure, though, that Peter can only talk his way out so many times.
Bo tells Gina that he asked that the forms requiring background information be waived for the meantime so that she can start at the Police Academy. Later he asks John why he let Celeste go so easily and he tells him he just did what he had to do...
