Celeste tells Stefano that she is more worthy of his love than Marlena, who has now been taken by someone more powerful. Stefano still refuses to believe that Marlena is the Desecrator, despite the overwhelming evidence that she is. He realises that John’s donating of the priceless statue is a trap to catch the Desecrator, and he and Celeste hurry to the church.
At the church, John is relieved to see it is only Marlena, but she won’t answer any of his questions. Believing he has hurt her, he calls Mike to come and take a look at her, but whilst he is doing so, Marlena tries to strangle him. Mike and Abe arrive and Mike sedates Marlena. Needless to say, both are shocked at the identity of the Desecrator. Stefano and Celeste watch from a distance, and Stefano, too, is aghast. John refuses to let Abe take her to the hospital and have her put under armed guard, so instead they take her to her apartment, certain that everything will be sorted out in the morning.
Laura tells Alice she has stronger feelings for Clark than she thought. Mike calls Laura and tells her to meet him at Marlena’s apartment and she rushes off to do so.
Peter and Jack argue about Jennifer. They leave her room, determined to have it out in the reception area, but Jennifer doesn’t want them to fight and, despite her weakness, gets out of bed to stop them. Alice arrives and is appalled at the behaviour of the two men and she tells them as much. Jennifer is a grown woman and as such, can make her own choices. In her drowsiness, she asks Jack not to leave her, and Alice ushers a dismayed Peter outside. However, Jennifer thinks she is talking to Peter, much to Jack’s disappointment.
Met at the hotel by a stubborn receptionist, Vivian and Ivan determine to find Kate and Victor’s room by themselves. After a number of amusing mix-ups, they find the suite. Victor is annoyed that Vivian ignored Dr Bader’s instructions and left the hospital, but Kate says that they might as well just carry on with the wedding. Vivian attempts to stall the ceremony, unable to announce that she is already married to Victor, but she suddenly goes into labour. Panic ensues, and Vivian realises she has dropped the marriage certificate. Meanwhile, Victor has found a piece of paper...
Stefano and Celeste panic as they realise that Abe is searching the armoire and may find the secret door. He finds some medication, but Laura says that it would not change Marlena’s behaviour. Abe turns his attention to the locked drawer and, with a key found at St Luke’s after one of the Desecrator’s crimes, opens it. They cannot deny now that Marlena is indeed the Desecrator.
When Marlena is alone in her room, Stefano enters and kidnaps her.

Ivan manages to distract Victor and Kate from reading the marriage certificate just as Vivian has another contraction. Ivan manages to re-obtain it before they have another chance. Kate learns that the ambulance that was sent has been re-routed to an accident, meaning the baby will be born at the hotel. In order to cope with the pain, Victor encourages Vivian to think of happy things, and she fantasises about a life in which she and Victor live happily married. Eventually, she gives birth to a baby boy.
Everybody is pitching in to rebuild St Luke’s in time for Bo and Billie’s wedding. The couple themselves worry that, despite all the hard work, the church won’t be ready in time. Just as it looks like they might have to postpone the wedding, a relief crew sent by Tony DiMera arrives to work around the clock to ensure that the wedding goes ahead as scheduled.
Lucas tells Sami that he will tell Carrie the truth, but Sami yet again warns him of what she will do if he does. Jamie once again tells her that what she is doing is wrong, but she doesn’t care. Lynn, annoyed that Jonah is seeing Wendy again, mentions to Sami that she knew a girl who drugged a man so that he would sleep with them. Sami gets an idea and finds out the drug’s name - Validan. She dreams of her future with Austin. Meanwhile, Wendy wishes there was something she could do to help Carrie and Austin. When Jonah threatens to intervene, Austin tells him to stay out of it. When Wendy sees Jonah talking to Lynn, she worries that he might want to go out with her instead, but he reassures her that is not the case.
While Gina contemplates her lost past, Alice continues to hassle her to try and open the puzzle box, especially when Shawn-D accidentally calls Gina “mom”. Mike cautions his grandmother against being too optimistic, but when he gives Gina a lift back to the loft from St Luke’s, he tells her that it is very easy to believe that she is Hope.

Kate tells Lucas, Austin, Billie, Bo and Carrie about the birth of the baby and asks Billie to be his godmother. She agrees. They all head to the hospital to see him, except for Austin, who promises Kate he will drop by later (ie. when Carrie and Lucas have gone).
At the hospital, Sami is panicked by Kate’s plans to help Carrie and Austin get back together. She manages to get hold of Lynn’s keys to the hospital drug storeroom and acquires some Validan, which will help get Austin to sleep with her. When Jamie suspects that Sami has been stealing drugs, she threatens to report her, but Sami reassures her that she hasn’t. Lucas realises what she’s up to, but is still unable to say anything for fear of being charged with statutory rape.
In Salem Place, Peter is discussing business with Mickey, but is disturbed by images of Jennifer in Jack’s arms at the hospital. Elsewhere in the mall, Alice tells Jack about Jennifer’s teddy bear, which always comforted her. When the two parties meet, Peter threatens Jack and again tells him to stay away from Jennifer.
Laura tells Jennifer that Clark is in Salem. While Laura is upstairs tending to Abby, Jack visits, bringing Jennifer’s teddy bear with him. Though touched, she once again tells Jack she is in love with Peter now, but is only too happy to arrange visitation rights and agrees to sign over half of their marital assets to him. When he leaves, Jennifer tells Laura that she fears she may have hurt Jack, and that she kind of feels sorry for him. Later, Laura comes across Clark at Johnny Angel’s, but he is unable to stop to talk for long (as he is busy arranging for Jennifer to sign over half of their assets). She gives him her phone number but is unable to find out his real name.
Carrie and Billie visit Jennifer to cheer her up. Jack’s lawyer turns up and gets Jennifer to sign a document giving Jack his share of their assets. Jennifer is not worried, believing she has nothing of value anyway.
Lynn once again asks Jonah to go out with her. He tells her no, and suggests to Bo that they hit the town tonight, as it is traditional to do so the night before the wedding. They go to the Cheatin’ Heart with Austin, who is annoyed to learn that Lucas has also been invited. Jonah admits to Austin that Lucas does look pretty guilty, but that there must be an explanation.
At the Brady pub, Sami is dressed to impress in preparation for the evening. Jamie is suspicious that she did steal drugs from the hospital, but Sami again tells her she’s wrong. She makes for the Cheatin’ Heart, where she plans to slip the drug into Austin’s beer.
Bo calls Billie at Jennifer’s house and arranges to meet her at their “special place”. Advised to follow her heart to find this place, Billie sets off. She finds Bo outside St Luke’s, where they can hear work continuing to have the church ready in time for their wedding tomorrow.

Carrie visits Marlena, hoping that she will be able to offer some advice about Austin, but she is shocked to find Abe and John at the apartment. They tell her that Marlena is seriously sick, but do not reveal anything further.
Stefano vows that nothing will happen to Marlena (having presumably put her back in her bed after his last attempt to kidnap her) and formulates a plan to take her again. He leaves a note apparently written by Marlena on her bedside table saying that she has gone forever and takes her through the wardrobe into his apartment. Celeste warns him again about the evil surrounding her, but he dismisses it as jealousy and superstition.
Outside St Luke’s, John encounters Gabe, who he is becoming annoyed with. They come upon a hit-and-run accident nearby, where the victim is a boy John knows. Gabe brings the boy back to life, before an astonished and disbelieving John.
Abe has the lab results, which confim beyond the shadow of a doubt that Marlena is indeed the Desecrator. However, they find her missing and read her note. They realise that there is more to this than meets the eye.
Next door, Celeste is left to look after Marlena while Stefano completes his plan (which involves sending Marlena look-alikes around the US to throw the cops off). She consults her cards and finds nothing but evil. Suddenly, she is confronted by a possessed Marlena, who tells her that she is too much of a threat to let her live and projects a force which sends Celeste reeling across the room, landing unconscious.
At the Cheatin’ Heart, Sami slips the Validan into Austin’s beer and urges him to drink up. Sami leaves and breaks into Carrie’s apartment to use her perfume. After narrowly missing being caught by Carrie, she goes over to Austin’s and waits for him to come home. When he does, he is drunk, and when he strips off and climbs into bed, she follows. Smelling Carrie’s perfume, he begins to make love to Sami.

Stefano arrives home from dispatching his decoys and finds the room in a mess and a distraught Celeste on the floor. When asked what happened, Celeste points the finger at Marlena’s prone form on the couch. Stefano doesn’t believe her and accuses her of drinking too much, but she goes on to tell him that Marlena is responsible for every evil act in Salem in the last couple of months, and she blames Stefano for opening her soul for the devil to take. Stefano leaves again and Celeste vows to fight to save her own soul. To this end, she goes out, and when she has gone, Marlena wakes up.
Bo arrives at Marlena’s apartment and is shocked to learn that Marlena is the Desecrator. When he goes, Abe speculates that John could have kidnapped Marlena in order to keep her from going to jail. When asked where he was when she disappeared, John relates the story about Gabe and the car accident, but Abe is unable to believe him.
Gina has a nightmare that Bo and Billie’s wedding will be stopped because of her again, and she goes and tells Billie that she can’t be a bridesmaid. Billie understands. Alice calls Gina and arranges to meet her at Salem Place. There, Alice urges Gina to have another go at opening the puzzle box. Celeste overhears and realises she must not let Gina open the box in order to undo the evil that has already been done in Salem. She follows Gina to John’s loft. With a bit of time left before the wedding, Gina tries opening the box and actually makes progress.
Austin awakes and is absolutely horrified to find Sami in bed with him. He can’t believe what he’s done and Sami is upset that he can’t remember doing it (an effect of the drug). He is in a state of shock and tells Sami that they have to work it out after the wedding. Later, delighted with her success, Sami goes out and buys her own bottle of Carrie’s perfume. Meanwhile, Austin worries about telling Carrie, and just as he is about to, they are interrupted by Billie, Kristen and Jennifer who whisk them off to the church.
Billie and Carrie are getting ready for the wedding. Carrie is feeling positive about her future with Austin. Kristen and Jennifer arrive and Bo drops a gift around. It is a barometer, which, as he explains from outside the door, shows that it is going to be a great day not only today, but for the rest of their lives too.
Stefano meets up with Tony outside St Luke’s and tells him not to worry about keeping an eye on Marlena anymore. He then goes home and finds both Celeste and Marlena missing. The latter is wandering around the back alleys freezing, but still vowing that there will be no happy endings for anyone.
