Jack continues in his attempts to find a link between Peter and Daniel, but no leads are forthcoming. He dreams of a future where Jennifer has forgiven him for walking out on her and Abby. He gets frustrated at the lack of information on Daniel. His source is unwilling to help him with info on Peter, but he suggests he starts at Peter’s club.

Meanwhile, Jennifer is worried as she hasn’t heard from Jack all day - he must be up to something. Peter threatens Daniel and tells him he’s not getting anymore of his money. Jennifer nearly comes upon the meeting. Daniel is confident that Peter will pay whatever amount he asks - he has a plan...

Laura arrives home to find Alice on the couch. Laura’s having trouble getting over her feelings for Jack. Alice implores her to help herself - find someone else, replace Jack. Laura isn’t sure about attending the hospital staff dance at Peter’s club, but she ends up going. Just as she is about to leave for it, Daniel arrives. His return unsettles Laura. He tries to explain why he left town and apologises for doing so. She appreciates his effort, but is unsure whether she should give him another chance or not. She eventually agrees to give it a go and Alice warns her to be careful.

At the dance, Peter is uneasy when Jennifer starts talking about Daniel. Jack arrives and learns from the bartender that Peter hardly comes to the club at all. He spots Peter and Jennifer on the dancefloor. Jennifer is very unimpressed that Jack has come. Jack registers Peter’s look of panic when Laura arrives with Daniel.

On the island, the Holy Water is ineffectual. Marlena accuses Kristen of being jealous. John sends Kristen back to the cabin and he reassures Marlena that they’ve heard the last of this nonsense. He follows Kristen to the cabin and we learn that the demon switched the Holy Water for plain water. Marlena fights the demon and vows that he will not take her soul or John’s. The demon threatens to go after her children. Meanwhile, John lectures Kristen about her behaviour. However, she continues her attempts to convince him that Marlena is possessed and they argue.

Carrie and Austin go to tell Caroline and Shawn their good news. Carrie wants to tell Roman as well and also wishes that Sami were there to share in her joy. Caroline realises that Austin is the second member of the Reed family to join the Bradys through marriage. Carrie asks Austin to ask Lucas to be his best man. Austin doesn’t like this idea, but promises to consider it. She says she wishes Sami could be her maid of honour, and Austin feels he should tell Carrie that he slept with Sami. However, Carrie really doesn’t want to know about it. Austin knows that when Sami returns to Salem there will be problems to sort out.

Lucas has a plan to break up Carrie and Austin, much to Jamie’s disgust. He plans to take Carrie on a world tour to inspire romance. Carrie spots him at the dance and encourages Austin to talk to him. Lucas tells Carrie about his plan to expand Countess Wilhelmina, but is shocked to learn of her engagement to Austin. He realises that Sami is the key to breaking up Carrie and Austin.

Jennifer is shocked to see Laura with Daniel. She is sceptical of Daniel’s excuses for leaving town and doesn’t think it’s such a good idea for Laura to see him again. Nevertheless, that is what Laura intends to do. Jack talks to Daniel but doesn’t find out very much. Peter spots them talking and enlists the bartender’s help to break them up. Peter tells Daniel that his blackmail will not work and that he mustn’t speak to Jack, who is sure that the two men know each other better than they are making out. He tells Peter that he intends to keep scum like him out of the Horton family. Laura tells Jack she’s certain there is no connection between Peter and Daniel, but he is certain there is. Eventually Peter realises it is futile to resist Daniel and tells him that he’s won.

Kristen notices that the storm has gone from the island. She begs John to open his mind and believe her. John thinks Marlena left because Kristen upset her. Meanwhile, Marlena arrives back in Salem with the storm and warns the owners of the boat to stay away from her because "it" is after her. In pursuit of shelter, Marlena battles some badly-realised special effect demons.

The owner of the boat takes it back to the island and tells John and Kristen that the storm hit the mainland just as Marlena arrived. He takes them back to Salem and his wife tells them the storm seemed to be following Marlena.

Marlena crashes her car and pleads with God to protect her. The devil tells her she will never escape him. John and Kristen find the crashed car and there is blood on the steering wheel. Meanwhile Marlena attempts to seek shelter in St Luke’s, but her path to the door is blocked by the ghost of Curtis Reed, back from the dead to help his master bring Marlena to hell.

"So, it’s possible you’re still Hope?" - Alice.

Billie and Bo are on their way home from New Orleans. Conveniently for the storyline, Billie dreams of her father. She wakes and tells Bo that she wants to go by Victor’s when they get back to get the thermos.

Vivian is determined to get Kate’s old job at Titan. Outside, the workers building the patio decide to finish up for the day. Vivian’s dog starts digging again. Billie and Bo arrive and Billie is most annoyed to find the thermos missing. Vivian, in turn, is annoyed by the suspicious Billie’s presence. Victor finds it difficult to believe Billie’s theory that the thermos was drugged. Billie accuses Vivian of lying and taking the thermos. Victor wants to know who took it and the dog comes in, having turned up the cup from the thermos. Bo finds the rest of it in the garden and they conclude that the dog must have buried it. It appears clean of drugs, but Billie is still very suspicious. Vivian plans to put a permanent end to her problem with Billie.

Gina goes to the hospital and tells Alice and Mike the outcome of her misadventures in New Orleans. Mike points out that she still could be Hope - they didn’t find anything which meant she wasn’t. Lexie tells them and Abe about Father Francis’s miraculous recovery.

Kristen and John go to the hospital and are shocked to hear of Francis’s recovery. They set out with Mike, Gina and Abe to find Marlena. Alice says a prayer for them.

Marlena is at St Luke’s being terrorised by Curtis Reed. He won’t let her into the church. He tells her that she must bring John with her to hell by seducing him. Father Francis arrives and repels the zombie. Marlena battles her conscience before she is able to escape into the church with Francis. The old priest pleads with Marlena to ask God for forgiveness for all she’s done whilst under the influence of the demon. He instructs her to stay in the church and not to leave under any circumstances while he fetches help - she still has evil in her and it must be exorcised with John’s help. She gives him her St Michael’s medal for protection. However, he is hit on the head by a loose downpipe and knocked unconscious. He is found by Kristen, John, Mike, Gina and Abe. John recognises Marlena’s medal.

The search party consider that Father Francis may have been mugged. The priest comes to and mutters the name "Curtis". The only Curtis John knows is Curtis Reed and he’s dead. What can he be talking about?

Kristen and John head to St Luke’s.

Curtis attacks Sami and this lures Marlena out of the church. Sami turns out to be an illusion. Marlena is very pissed off that she was tricked into leaving the church. She is met with resistance when she tries to get back in, despite praying to God for strength. She is ultimately defeated and repossessed. The devil dismisses Curtis and he returns to hell. Marlena replaces her contact lenses and collapses after Kristen and John find her. She comes to and tells them she left the island because of what Kristen was saying. She refuses to go into the church to have her head bandaged. This arouses Kristen’s suspicions. They go to the hospital and Gina tells them that Father Francis will be just fine. Mike and Gina call it a night and John tells Kristen she’s had enough of her theories. Marlena listens in on them arguing. She asks John to take her home when she hears Kristen bring up Father Francis. He obliges, and Kristen vows the battle isn’t over yet.

Billie and Bo get back to the boat during the storm. Carrie and Austin arrive and they help them secure the boat. Whilst doing this, Billie fall in the water. In an anticlimax, she is rescued immediately and is left perfectly unharmed by the ideal. Carrie and Austin tell Bo and Billie that they are engaged. Carrie asks Bo to help her get Roman back for the wedding. Billie is regretful that Kate isn’t here with Austin in his time of happiness. Curtis comes to mind again.

Vivian attempts to enlist Lucas’ help to get Kate’s old job. She slyly discourages and weakens the chances of the applicants for the position while they’re waiting for their interview with Victor. Later, she suggests herself to Victor for the position. He isn’t sure she’s right for the job, though: she has no temperament and doesn’t show proficiency in situations of conflict.

Lucas finds Billie sitting at Kate’s desk. He is furious, despite her reassurances that she isn’t trying to take over her mother’s job. She asks him what’s bothering him and offers to help, and his icy response only gains him an earful from Billie, who thought they were getting closer. She concludes that he is upset because Austin and Carrie are getting married. She tells him they have a lot in common. Victor walks in while they are arguing and announces that Kate’s attorney is on his way over to read the will.

Lucas is furious when the will is read because everything is divided evenly between the three children. Billie and Austin tell Lucas that he can have the house in Martha’s Vineyard he spent his childhood in with Kate, but despite this he calls Billie a whore and blames her for Kate’s death. Austin is furious with Lucas and Victor expresses strong disapproval of his outburst. He declares war and Vivian decides to use the situation to her advantage. She goes after Lucas and tells him that he’s got every right to be angry. They strike a deal whereby Lucas must go back to Titan and make it up with Billie. If he does so, then Vivian will help him get Carrie. He is reluctant, but she reassures him that her plan won’t work unless he does exactly as she instructs - he must pretend to like Billie and Austin. Back at Titan, Austin tells Billie that she isn’t to blame for Kate’s death, and she tells him that she’s not going to give up on Lucas and that he can’t either.

Peter gets a call from Daniel and they arrange to meet at Johnny Angel’s at one o’clock. Jack is listening in on Peter’s end of the call. They argue, but Jennifer interrupts and Peter leaves. Jennifer tells Jack to do something constructive with his life. She vows to do everything she can to get Austin to return to the show when his leave of absence ends.
