Billie is disturbed when the newspaper reports Gina’s capture of the mugger. She is even more disturbed when she and Bo go to the pub and see Gina being interviewed on television about it. Later, Gina tells Bo she has no wish to wish to emulate Hope’s life. Bo tells Gina to do what her heart tells her to do and that she musn’t not do something because she’s worried about hurting him and Billie.
Marlena is delighted that Carrie and Sami’s lives will be a living hell, following her advice. Realising Marlena’s case should be approached objectively, John goes to the hospital and asks Marlena why Father Francis came to her room and why her hands are burned. She says she doesn’t know, though in her head, she’s fighting a battle with the devil, who won’t let her tell the truth.
Later, Jamie brings Marlena some flowers. Marlena gets her to dispose of the Holy Water bottle that Father Francis dropped. Jamie is reluctant to let her use the telephone, but when she tells her she’d like to check up on her children, she agrees. However, she calls Stefano, who promises that she will never go to jail. He is delighted that she called him and he makes for the hospital. Celeste is dubious, though - how did she know Stefano’s phone number?
When Stefano arrives at the hospital, he tells Marlena that if anybody tried to stop him from protecting her, he would kill them. The devil is delighted - Stefano can kill John Black for him. Indeed, Stefano vows to do just that, when he returns home, but Celeste is appalled that Stefano would kill a man of God.
Austin tells Sami to get dressed, but she tells him she needs him and urges him to come to bed. There is a knock at the door and Austin finds Carrie outside. He won’t let her in, but tells her he will call her later. She returns to her apartment, hopeful. Back at Austin’s, Austin tells Sami they have no future and that there never was anything between them. More distressingly, he tells her he thought she was Carrie when he made love to her. Upset, she makes him promise not to tell Carrie and she leaves. When she gets home, she packs her bags and plans to leave town.
Carrie and Austin meet in the corridor and he tells her he’s sorry and that he still loves her, though he can’t necessarily get back together with her yet. Jamie arrives and tells them that Sami’s leaving town.
Caroline drops by the boat to help Billie prepare dinner for her and Bo. Billie finds a picture of Bo and Hope on the day of Hope’s induction into the police force and Caroline realises that she’s bothered by it. Billie hopes she can stop worrying about it. At the pub, Shawn-Douglas rushes in in a panic and tells Gina a man tried to sell him drugs outside. When Gina calls the boat and asks for Bo, Billie is upset.
Bo and John go to Marlena’s bedroom to search for clues.

Sami (Alison Sweeney in her last appearance for a few months) buys a one-way ticket to Los Angeles.While she waits for the train, Sami thinks about making love to Austin. Austin and Carrie rush to the train station to look for Sami, while Jamie waits at Austin’s in case Sami calls. Carrie cannot understand why Sami would leave, but Austin knows her reasons. After much argument, the ticket attendent tells Carrie and Austin which train Sami is on. They are too late, though and Carrie asks Austin why Sami would run away. Remembering his promise to Sami, he keeps his lips sealed. They then realise that she might get off at any stop along the way. They return to Austin’s flat, where Austin tells Carrie that he doesn’t want Carrie to go with him to find Sami. She reluctantly agrees, but after he leaves, she goes to put a sweater away in his room and finds lipstick on his pillow. Determined to conduct her own search for Sami, she goes to the station and catches the train with Austin, whom she is very cold towards.
After they discuss Stefano’s previous misdeeds and their consequences, John tells Bo that God would forgive him for killing Stefano.
Gina attempts to apprehend the drug dealer while Billie calls Bo. Billie goes to the pub and Kristen, who visited Billie while Gina called, goes to Marlena’s apartment. When she arrives, Kristen tells Bo about the dealer and Bo heads to the pub. Billie arrives just as the dealer pulls a gun on Gina. She poses as a buyer, but the dealer recognises her and attacks her. Bo arrives and he and Gina are able to apprehend the dealer. Following all this, the news crew turn up and hound Bo, Gina and Billie, but the trio put them in their place when they bring up Gina’s similarity to Hope. Billie asks Gina whether she wants to be a cop and tells her she should go for it.
Celeste forbids Stefano to enter Marlena’s bedroom. After nearly being caught by John and Kristen, he overhears them talking about him. Kristen is disturbed to hear John talk so nastily about her father. He asks her what she’d do if Stefano were alive and living in Salem and she says she’d talk to him and ask him about Gina. She then goes on to wonder how Stefano would have gotten into the apartment. In the armoire, Stefano laments that Kristen will despise him forever.

Austin and Carrie get off at the first stop and he asks her why she won’t talk to him. She tells him that she’ll go her way to search for Sami and he can go his. Austin, however, tells Carrie they should work together. She tells him he can go back to Salem if he likes and they realise each other has secrets. Carrie calls home and says that she and Sami have gone away for a while.
Laura is tormented by dreams of Clark in her sleep.
Jennifer walks in on Jack in the shower. Her screams wake Laura, who rushes in and catches a glimpse. Jennifer is very angry at Jack (because she didn’t knock?), but Laura suggests to her that Jack doesn’t seem that bad and asks her if there is any way to rekindle her love for him. Jennifer tells her mother about her argument with Peter. Meanwhile, Jack has set up an elaborate breakfast for him, Jennifer and Laura, but Jennifer wants no part of it and storms off to work. Jack tells Laura they should forget anything ever happened between them.
Breakfasting with Jonah and Alice at Johnny Angel’s, Lexie remembers that it is Alice and Tom’s wedding anniversary. Wendy arrives and Lexie offers to babysit Benjamin so that she and Jonah can go away together sometime. Later Jonah is accosted by Lynn, who taunts him and tells him Wendy can’t give him what she did. Wendy worries about Lynn, but Lexie reassures her that Jonah loves her.
Jamie tells Lucas that Sami ran away and that Austin and Carrie went after her. She says Sami had no excuse for ruining everybody’s lives and that she has the feeling Sami never wants to come back.
Jennifer meets Alice in Salem Place and tells her she’s going to find Clark. Later, Jennifer suddenly realises how she will do so.

Celeste visits Peter at his club. He tells her to go away and she concludes he is moody because of Jennifer. After Celeste tries to persuade Peter to go back and work for Stefano, an attractive girl called Pamela arrives to sell Peter some cheap (ie dodgy) bar supplies. She tells him she’ll see him tonight. In an attempt to prove to Celeste that he’s going to get back with Jennifer, he calls her, but she is too busy to take the call.
Jack plans to go to Salem Place to see if Jennifer needs help with the show, but Laura thinks he is pushing Jennifer too hard.
At Salem Place, Jennifer is recording an insert for her show, through which she plans to track down Clark. She will issue an appeal for him to come forward. Alice comes by and invites Jennifer to her party, but is dismayed to learn that Peter won’t be accompanying her. However, because Peter won’t be there she decides to invite Jack. (One can only assume that Alice hasn’t yet decided on a venue for the party, as it is ultimately held at Peter’s club, almost certainly ensuring his presence. On top of this, he indicated to Pamela that he will probably be free tonight.) She calls him and invites him and Laura.
Laura comes downstairs and is flustered to find a shirtless and sweaty Jack working out in the living room. She tells him there’s no way they can go to Alice’s party together. Jennifer arrives home in time to her Laura and Jack referring to something happening between them, but assumes they mean the fiasco in the bathroom. Later, Jack doesn’t pass on a message from one of Jennifer’s staff that Peter called.
Alice and Maggie set it up for Wendy to be pampered for a day, in an attempt to boost her self esteem. It is also a surprise for Jonah, so Alice instructs Lexie not to let Jonah out of her sight all day. Jonah gets suspicious of Lexie and asks her if she is really over her feelings for him. She tells him she’s in love with Abe.
Gina scores 24 out of 25 in a test for entry into the police academy. Billie overhears Abe tell Bo that Gina’s score was one of the highest since Hope’s.
At the party, Wendy enters looking glamorous after her makeover. Jennifer talks to Peter and he asks her why she didn’t return his calls. She says she didn’t get the messages. She is also annoyed to find Jack invited, but is later forced to recreate Alice and Tom’s special dance with him (as they have apparently done on a previous anniversary). Alice is terribly thankful for bringing back many happy memories. Peter is upset by them dancing together and asks Pamela, who has turned up, to dance with him.
Billie is slightly disamyed to see Gina at the party. She is keen to know Gina’s results, and although glad to hear they are outstanding, she is annoyed that Gina’s personality profile matches Hope’s. However, she gets over it and congratulates Gina on making the force. Bo dismisses the similarities as coincidence.
Jennifer departs with Laura so that they can see her show. Jack arrives home shortly after and he and Laura are dismayed at what they see on the television.

Kristen meets Peter at Salem Place and implores him to get back with Jennifer. She explains that he was wrong to try and take over Jennifer’s independence and he realises his sister is right. He goes to the Meadows and cosies up to the receptionist in order to get information about Clark.
Laura is very annoyed that her daughter will stop at nothing to find Clark. However, Jack has devised a plan to get Jennifer to give up her search. He and Laura write a letter from Clark to Monica saying that he is with his wife and that they’ll never see each other again. Despite being uncertain about executing the plan, Laura shows the note to Jennifer.
Kate continues to grow more suspicious of Vivian, but Victor refuses to believe that Vivian would betray them. Vivian locks her marriage certificate in her desk drawer.
Stefano arranges to get Marlena out of the hospital tonight. He visits her and is very nearly caught by John, who goes to visit her as well. Also visiting is Kate, seeking advice from her old friend on her situation with Vivian. The devil in Marlena decides to make Kate’s life even more unbearable and she tells her that she is right to suspect Vivian, and instructs her to go and search Vivian’s desk. When she does so, Vivian catches her before she can find anything and Kate says she was looking for Vivian’s hospital bill so she could pay it. Vivian is not convinced.
Mike tells John Marlena’s red cell count is very low again. Later, he begins to feel responsible for Marlena’s condition because he gave Marlena’s security code to his blackmailers. Feeling guilty, he is about to confess to John and Abe when he gets a call from Stefano, who warns him to keep his mouth shut. John is convinced that Stefano is responsible. Kristen is convinced prayer is the answer, and when she prays for Marlena, the devil becomes agitated, even more so when Kristen leaves her rosary with her for protection.
