At the Horton house, Peter, Mike and Laura are worried about Jennifer. Upon wondering what Jennifer was doing in Chicago, Laura is told by Peter that she went in search of Clark.

In the storm, the car is stalled and Jack goes for help. He finds a coffee house and gets a thermos flask and some blankets. However, when he returns to the car, Jennifer is gone. He searches for her and finds her passed out in the snow, very ill.

Lost in the blizzard, Jack and Jennifer come upon a cave, in which they light a fire and seek shelter. Jack removes Jennifer’s soaking clothes and wraps her in a blanket. A feverish Jennifer tells Jack she loves him. A couple of “flashbacks” ensue, and Jennifer ultimately asks Jack to make love to her.

Despite the protests of Laura and Mike, Peter sets out to find Jennifer. He is met by police barricades, which he breaks through when the officer present is distracted. He finds the empty car and calls the Horton house on his cellular phone to impart this news to Mike and Laura. He comes across the coffee house and he learns from the owner that Jack was in earlier, and that he was travelling with Jennifer.

At the Horton house, Mike and Laura discuss Clark. Laura is resigned to the fact there will never be anything between them and she becomes upset when Mike compares Clark with Jack. She then tries to convince Mike to give love another chance after his “bad experience in Israel”.

At the Brady house, Carrie is attempting to get the truth out of Sami. Carrie receives a call from Wendy at the Cheatin’ Heart, who asks her to come and talk to Austin. When she leaves, Sami follows, determined to get to Austin first, much to the disgust of Jamie.

Outside the Cheatin’ Heart, a fight between Austin and Lucas is averted by Jonah, who can’t believe that Carrie would sleep with Lucas. Lucas is just about to tell Austin the truth when Sami arrives and intervenes. Hot on her heels is Carrie, who immediately accuses Sami of following her. Austin is appalled at Carrie’s treatment of Sami. Jonah admits to Wendy that there is a lot more going on here than he realised.

Lucas threatens to tell Austin the truth, but Sami tells him that if he does, she’ll tell Carrie that it was all Lucas’ idea to make Austin think he was sleeping with her. When he counters this by saying that Carrie would never believe her, she reminds him that it is illegal to have sex with a minor, and that the police will find out if he opens his mouth.

Deciding yet again that he and Carrie have nothing more to say to each other, Austin departs with Sami. Wendy implores Jonah to help Carrie, but he promised that he wouldn’t interfere. However, he does try to get Carrie to remember if there was something that she did that might have upset Austin. Carrie is confused, and Lucas wishes he could tell Austin and Carrie the truth without losing Carrie.

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
Alice: Oh, Michael, darling. You know, I stopped by because I heard that there was a fire at St Luke’s. Why is everybody laughing?
Mike: Well, they’re gonna rebuild the church in time for Bo and Billie’s wedding. Everybody’s pitching in.
Alice: Ah well, I’ll go and say hello to Caroline...

Gabe visits John, but tired of his warnings, John calls Abe and tells him there’s a burglar in the loft. When Abe gets there, Gabe has disappeared. John believes that he is the Desecrator’s target, and that everyone would be safer if he left town. Abe is able to talk him out of doing this.

At the pub, Gina overhears Billie say that she and Bo would already be married if it wasn’t for Gina. Mike arrives and reports that Jennifer is missing. Tony and Kristen arrive and announce their plans to rebuild St Luke’s in time for the wedding. Everybody rallies together to help.

Celeste tells Stefano that she thinks Marlena started the fire at St Luke’s. We learn that Stefano and Celeste shared something special in the past.

Marlena wakes from a troubled sleep. Caroline calls and invites her down to the pub. Stefano and Celeste follow her.

Alice arrives at the pub and Mike tells her that Jennifer is missing.  Caroline tells the same news to Kristen. John and Abe go the pub and Caroline tells John that Gabe has a way of appearing when John is troubled. Perhaps Gabe’s watching over him?

Outside the pub, Tony is approached by Stefano and Celeste. Stefano asks Tony to keep an eye on Marlena for him. Inside, John tells Kristen that he will no longer pursue her, though he does still love her. Alice implores Gina to try and open the puzzle box.

John devises a plan to catch the Desecrator. He will donate a statue of St Pete to the church and wait for the Desecrator to strike.

Stefano and Celeste return to Marlena’s bedroom and prise open a locked drawer. Inside, they find chloroform, gloves and matches, all instruments of the Desecrator.

In the blizzard, Peter finds the cave in which Jack and Jennifer are sheltering and believes that Jack was trying to take advantage of Jennifer while she was ill. Peter spirits Jennifer away to safety.

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
Laura: I can’t wait to get back to the hospital and see if Jennifer’s awake.
Maggie: I think you ought to wait a little while. Jack is on his way over there.
Laura: You talked to him?
Maggie: He was just here. But, Laura, I...
Laura: Which way did he go!?
Maggie: He went that way, but Laura...
Laura: I’ve got a few choice words for him!

Peter arrives at Salem University Hospital with Jennifer. After examining her, Mike announces that she should be fine. Laura is angry at Jack, as it is his fault that Jennifer is in hospital. She vows to give him a piece of her mind.

The cleanup at the church has begun. John tells Abe that he’ll wait for the Desecrator while all the workers are at the pub on their dinner break. He says that he must ambush the Desecrator alone, but Abe says that if he hasn’t heard from him in an hour, he’ll send his men in.

When Marlena discovers she has an appointment at the hospital tonight, she is worried as she thought she had to do something else but can’t remember what.

Vivian insists that she is well enough to leave hospital, but Kate and Victor tell her she must stay for her own good. However, Vivian persuades Mike to release her. Kate and Victor go to Salem Inn to get married in secret, leaving Henderson with instructions not to tell anyone where they are, but Vivian and Ivan are able to get the information out of him, and are suitably horrified. Armed with her marriage certificate, Vivian sets off for the hotel.

Laura and Maggie take a walk through Salem Place. When Laura goes to pick up some photos, Maggie is approached by Jack, who wants to know if Jennifer is alright. When he makes for the hospital, Laura returns and when Maggie tells her that Jack was just there, she goes after him so she can tell him what she thinks of his irresponsible behaviour. But she forgets all about Jack when she spots Clark in the distance and gallops after him. Unable to catch up, she returns to Johnny Angel’s where she discusses Clark with Maggie. Afterwards, she returns to the hospital.

Jack visits Jennifer at hospital. He tells her that he blames himself for being in hospital, but Jennifer is worried about Jack’s hand, which has been bandaged, in case he has frostbite. He is disappointed that she wouldn’t be able to remember last night, but she says she can. She apologises for the way she has treated him since his return and thanks him for saving her life. She asks him to hold her, and as he does so, Peter walks in.

Caroline and Marlena have coffee at the pub, and when Caroline starts to talk about faith and God, Marlena appears uncomfortable. The workers arrive for supper, and Marlena disappears. Alice is concerned that Marlena is overdoing work, as is Caroline. Alice asks Mike to call her at the hospital, but when he does there is no answer. Caroline is confused, as she was sure Marlena told her she had an appointment with a patient tonight.

At the church, John waits for the Desecrator. Marlena, in a black hooded cloak, arrives. There is a struggle and she is revealed. John cannot believe his eyes.
