From Soap Opera Digest

General Hospital On-Screen Siblings: A.J. Quartermaine and Jason Morgan

Steve and co-star Billy Warlock (A.J.), recently talked to Soap Opera Digest about their characters. Heres what they had to say:

Revelry or Rivalry? They may share the same father (Alan), but the fact that they have different moms (A.J.s is Monica, Jasons is Alans long-ago murdered mistress, Susan Moore) is just the beginning of the disparities between the Q boys. Though their childhood was relatively uneventful, adolescence was filled with strife, as A.J. fell into alcoholism and Jason became the golden boy. Things really went south when a drunk A.J. caused a car crash that rendered Jason brain-damaged and unable to recall his identity. As a result, Jason changed his name, became mobster Sonnys No. 2 man, and pretty much wrote off his biological family for the family.

Is there any love left between them?

Billy Warlock (A.J.): Absolutely. The reason why he has so much pain and anger with Jason is because he loves him so much. Its painful to have his brother not only shun him, but shun the family because of something that A.J. caused. Hed take a beating from the family all day long if he could just get a little love back from the bro.

Steve Burton (Jason): Thats a hard question. I cant see how, just because of all of the things A.J. keeps doing. He keeps messing up every chance he gets. Right now, Jason has no interest in having any relationship with him.

Why is Jason still the family fave?

Burton: I dont know. He was the favorite before because he was going to med school and doing everything a perfect son would do. Now, he gets away with knocking people off and still being the favorite. Thats pretty cool (laughs).

Warlock: At first, it was because he never did anything wrong. Now, hes mysterious, and they can never have him again. They covet him because you always want what you cant have.

What is your off-screen relationship like?

Warlock: Steve and I could not see each other for 20 years and pick up right where we left off. We kind of bag on each other. I like working with him because hes incredibly professional almost too diligent. Its like, bam, bam, bam. Where are you in a hurry to go, man? (laughs) No, we have a great relationship. Its comfortable.

Burton: Billy and I are good friends. I lived with him for about four months before I got married. We talk all the time.

Is it easier to play brothers because you get along so well?

Warlock: I dont think so. Its weird; usually when you act, its about connecting. And A.J. and Jason dont connect. We do, as actors, but the scenes are not about connecting, and that feels odd.

Burton: I think it is, because then some kind of relationship comes across on-screen, no matter what. But it makes it harder for me to be mean to him [as Jason].
