National Security

I just got home from seeing National Security. I have read some very mixed reviews. I think that some reviewers were taking it a little too seriously. The Chicago Tribune has it right.

"...yuks, explosions and brawling buddies,,, ."

National Security is an action/comedy starring Martin Lawrence as Earl, a police academy reject and Steve Zahn as Hank, an out-of-luck cop. I recommend that you read the excellent review that ran in the Los Angeles Times on Jan. 17. National Security is rated PG-13 and opened Friday, January 17, 2003.

Eric Roberts plays Nash, cop killer and leader of the gang of smugglers. Eric has had plenty of practice playing bad guys so this is an easy role for him. He looks pretty dangerous with his hair stripped to snow white. He is wearing gold hoops in both of the holes in his left ear and he is decked out in black leather.

Both Martin Lawrence and Steve Zahn are funny guys but some of the laughs came from other members of the cast. I didn't catch her name in the credits but the lady who wouldn't hand over her car got big laughs in the theater where we went. Anyway, there are laughs and lots of action so this is good value for your entertainment dollar. However, I wonder about the flat top haircut and funny mustache on Steve Zahn. Anyone who saw him in Joy Ride knows he is really cute. Why did they give him such an unflattering haircut in National Security?? My husband said "DUH! Martin Lawrence didn't want Steve to look better than him." Well, judge for yourself -- there are lots of great photos at Rotten Tomatoes along with trailers and video stuff that I am not nearly technologically sophisticated enough to post on my web pages.
