Emily's mother stood above her. But the man standing behind her was NOT Dr.George. In fact, Emily had no idea who this man was. He looked fairly old, but like he knew what he was doing. "Em? Honey? The Doctor's Office just called. Dr.George couldn't make it. This is Dr. Staff. He'll take care of you." "First, I would like to speak with Emily. Alone. You may wait outside." Dr.Staff ushered Emily's mother out and closed the door. "So," he began. "You've been seeing the Ronins?" "I-I guess..." Emily stammered. She hadn't expected him to know so much already. "Is that what they're called?" Dr.Staff nodded. "You are linked to them, but I do not know how. I am their protector. I am called The Ancient. We, 'we' being the Ronins and I, live in a parallel world. For some reason which I do not understand, every time you close your eyes you are teleported to our world. From the information which I have gathered so far though, I believe that this all has something to do with a star. Do you have a certain star which you look at or wish on every night?" Emily nodded, slightly embarrassed, but The Ancient gave no notice. He just continued. "Apparently that was Rowen of the Strata, NOT a star. He had accidently drifted into this universe when he was in suspended animation, and when he left, a star was created in his place. There was something about that star that made you become linked with the Ronin Warriors. Here," he handed Emily a small bottle of an unidentifiable liquid. "Drink this. I cannot stop you from going there altogether, but this will make it so that you can control WHEN you go." Emily looked at the bottle suspiciously, then drank it. "Blink." said The Ancient. Emily did. "Where are you?" The Ancient asked her. "I'm...here. In my OWN world!! THANK YOU!!!!" "Wait. Now close your eyes and say think to yourself that you WANT to be there with them." Emily did. "So, I'm guessing it didn't work?" asked Rowen. No one looked really disappointed except for Kento, who was still suspicious of Emily. Emily grinned. "Oh, it worked alright!" She concentrated on being home and suddenly... "I'm home! It WORKED!!! Thank you!!!" The Ancient smiled. "I'm glad it did. You will all be friends, I'm fairly sure of that. I'm also sure that you will get along good with Strata."Will you explain everything to them, please?" "Yes. Be happy, little one. You are very lucky." "MOM!!! IT WORKED!!! BUT I'M GOING BACK RIGHT NOW TO SEE EVERYBODY!!! I'M NOT SURE WHEN I'LL BE BACK, BUT DON'T WORRY!!!!!!" Emily sank down and closed her eyes, waiting to find out what happens next... "EMILY!!!!! PAY ATTENTION!!!!!" shouted Emily's team mates. Emily blushed and yelled back "I WAS!!!! MAYBE IF YOU WEREN'T SO BUSY YELLING AT ME--" but she was interrupted as the volleyball flew right past her face. "I hate gym..." she thought to herself. Ignoring the screams of her team and the cheers of the other team, Emily thankfully trudged back down to the locker room. The other girls immediately began to hassle her. "Maybe a certain KNOW IT ALL should LEARN to play volleyball!!" laughed one. Other girls joined in her giggles. Emily bit back her tears and walked past the girl. "Maybe a certain CHEERLEADER should learn to ace a quiz!!" she thought to herself. One period later, Emily wasn't in a much better mood. Her Stupid Cousin had been bugging her all day, she'd had her Science test copied by the person sitting next to her, she had to go to recess BEFORE lunch instead of after, she was starving, she'd gone outside into the freezing cold for ten minutes until she found out that it was indoor recess that day, and now she stood in the tiny gym, she shoved and yelled at and knocked on the head with basketballs by people. She walked to a corner and sat down. Then she closed her eyes and sighed... |
