Panzer and Abromowitz

Bill Panzer and David Abramowitz

Panzer did most of the talking through this Q/A. I thought it was a credit to the fans that season sux[editors note: after later viewing, I have revised my opinion on season six, and find I like quite a bit of it] was not brought up and we focused on our new possibilites. Keep in mind, unless it's in quotes, I'm paraphrasing.

Q: What would have been the Sixth Season of your heart if money were not involved?

A: Panzer would have liked to have leapt 20 years into the future and written those twenty years in as flashbacks. He liked the idea of writing the future and playing God.

Q: Have you been surprised by the reaction to characters?

A: 'Mostly we're surprised when we remove them!' He then went on to use Methos as an example. He said they put him in hoping for another Darius type in age respects, but wanting a very different spin. He said he'd hoped the character would last,. . .but didn't guess at his great following.

Q: Are flashbacks harder in the recent past as compared to the far distant past?

A: Flashbacks are in part dictated by filming location. In Canada more open scenes and recent past can be filmed. In France more of the older flashbacks. Panzer did say that if he'd known the show was going to last so long then he would have made Duncan older as such a short(remember, we're talking immortal span) life time has been confining. He said they wanted to have Duncan at the Salem Witch trials, but realized they'd already placed him in China at the time.
He did say that some of the newer flachbacks are harder, as the 50's-70's don't leap out at you automatically when you flashback.

Q(asked by Big John): What about the new movie?

A: They have some of the screenplay, and Adrian has quite a bit of input. Panzer did close his comments with "Remember, in the end there can be only one!"

*oooohs all through the crowd*

Q: Zeist?

*mass laughter through the crowd*

A: (Abromowitz this time) Have you heard of revisionist history??

Q: Are there going to be reoccuring characters in the new series?

A: We hope so, filming starts June 9th in Toronto. It will be starring Elizabeth Gracen and Paul Johansen as a mortal cop.

Q: Why has the advertisement been so poor?

A: Panzer- "Let me spell it out for you: R-Y-S-H-E-R!!!" He said they've always been disapointed in HL's exposure. Abromowitz said that the new show already has a better time spot in New York, but don't ask him why things are happening better now.

Q: Who has control over the books?

A:The authors write them and hand them to Panzer(or staff) who read over them and make sure they fit in and are like a episode that was never filmed. They work with the writers on the manuscript.

Q: Will there be strong women guest stars in the new show?

A: Yes, they would be good for Amanda to deal with and show contrast with.

Q: What was the process behind Richie's death?

A: "It was hard." As Richie developed the story changed his character. Abramowitz said it wasn't fair for him to be the spear holder forever.

Q: ? (something about how they brought Fitz back)

A: Well, Roger's character turned out to be better in flashbacks. He's like a leprachaun.

Q: Do you believe in reincarnation or after life?

A: Panzer- one of the things that attracted him to HL was that it didn't deal with the afterlife, it dealt with extended life. People the same as you and me with one difference.

Q: Why is Amanda not a great fighter?

A: She is a survivor, she has skills to survive. It was important that she wasn't a female Duncan MacLeod.

Q: Will Amanda have a watcher?

A: Of course, you can't have an immortal without a watcher. (but they said they hadn't gotten that far in scripts yet)
