Be Careful what you wish for... May 29 1998

The King of Horror, Wes Craven, responsible for seminal horrors Nightmare on Elm Street and more recently the box office smash hit Scream, has created another cult classic Wishrnaster which wilt open at cinemas nation-wide from May 29th, 1998.

Produced by and starring the luminaries of the horror genre, Wishmaster brings Wes Craven's most terrifying new villain - known as 'The Djinn' to life.

The Djinn is a genie, unwittingly awakened by the film's heroine, Alexandra Amberson, from its thousand year sleep. Not your average genie, however, the Djinn grants wishes that are manifested as acts of extreme violence. The more wishes he grants the more powerful and dangerous he becomes. Wreaking evil and destruction on LA in his searches for Alexandra Amberson - the Djinn knows that she alone can empower him to infest the earth with his vile race.

Although a genie is a rather unusual villain for a horror movie Wes Craven explains. "In the horror genre, the most successful monsters are those that take advantage of elements that would not scream horror. You don't assume a genie, at any time, would be evil or negative. We all grew up dreaming of finding that stray lamp on the bench and having all of wishes come true. Not in this movie!'

Wishmaster stars Tammy Lauren, Andrew Divoff, Tony Todd, Kane Hodder and Robert Englund, Englund reigned terror on Elm Street as the infamous Freddy Krueger, Todd played the hook handed killer in Clive Barker's Candyman whilst Kane Hodder hacked his way into a nations nightmares as Jason in Friday the 13th.

"In Wishmaster we are passing the reigns over to what could very well be one of the greatest horror figures of all time" explains Craven. "and what better way to introduce our creation than with the three actors who portrayed the monsters that set the standards for the horror genre today".

Andrew Divoff. who plays the Wishmaster and his human alter ego Nathaniel Demerest, also cut his teeth on horror with Stephen King's Graveyard Shift. Wishmaster also employed the talents of one of the world's smallest men - 28 inch Vern Troyer who plays the Djinn's embryo!

Wishmaster is produced by Pierre David, directed by Robert Kurtzman and written by Peter Atkins. David has produced honor classics such as David Cronenberg's Scanners and Videodrome whilst Kurtyman, a special effects genius, has worked on some of the biggest movies of the last few years - Men in Black, Spawn.
