The Hack

I started up the old Dawson's Creek Bashing Brigade in mid-February of last year. To date, I had received more than 300,000 hits. Then I did something really stupid. I received this email.

Dear GeoUser:
Because of the fact that our hard disks are almost full by the incredible success of our virtual neighborhood, we have to ask Geo Members if they want to keep their website at GeoCities. If you want keep your site, e-mail us back to [email protected] your MEMBER NAME, PASSWORD and URL (website address) WITHIN 72 HOURS. If you ignore this, your GeoCities website and e-mail account will be deleted!
I hope you understand the necessarity of this action.
If your account would be deleted because you didn't answer as fast, you can still join GeoCities again by subscribing to the GeoCities Personal Homepage Program!

Now, I'm a smart person, but like an idiot I sent 'Geo Deal' my membername, my password, and my URL. I tried to update my site on December 13th, but by then, the page was gone.

I've emailed KORBEN, the host of the new Toyko site which replaced my website. She sent me this reply:

Nos4a2: Sorry, but I've never received any of your e-mails. I want you to know that I have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO with the erased homepages, this must be the 3233342 time that I reply so to people. All I can do is offer you a link to your site, but please don't be mad at me since I can't do nothing about it. Bye. KORBEN

Kinda rude, considering I suspect her of hacking into my site, no? Well, I sent her a reply, and asked for the email address of the '3233342' people she aparently appologized to. She sent me this reply.

Nos4a2: Sorry, but I don't have the e-mail of the other people, all of their e-mails were all insult and I got pissed and delted them all, since they wouldn't believe me, but from now on if I receive any other I'll forward them to you, ok? Bye! KORBEN

Odd. Her site replaces the hard work these people put into their websites, and she just erases the messages and all trace of their email addresses? Shouldn't she be trying to make amends with these people? Shouldn't she find the wonderful person who is taking over these people's websites and redirecting to her 'Tokoyo' site? I guess basic human curtesy doesn't matter to this girl. Ugh. Well, why don't you email KORBEN and let her know what you think.

So, apparently a few other people have gotten email from 'Geo Deal', and consequently, their sites have been erased and they have been re-directed to this Tokyo site. If this is happened to you, please email me at [email protected]. I intend to take action against these people. Reportedly, more than 40 sites have been erased by 'Geo Deal'. I've contacted Geocities about the illegal use of the Geo Deal email account, and I'm waiting to hear back from them. Well, check back later for updates. Let's get back to the Bashing!
