*Or, everything you ever wanted to know about Buffy, but were afraid to ask.
Name: Buffy Summers
Brief History: Found out she was a Slayer at 15, but didn't like the dental plan. Forced to burn down the school gym in LA. Moved to Sunnydale with her mother when her parents divorced. Coerced into continuing with her Slaying job after vampires and other dark forces threatened to take over the world.
Name: Rupert Giles
Age: early 40's?
Gig: Watcher, the guy who prepares and trains the Slayer for her Slaying duties, and high school librarian
Friends: Buffy Summers, Willow Rosenburg, Xander Harris, Oz, Cordelia Chase.
Significant Other: Jennifer Calendar [deceased]
Best Line: [just been hit by an arrow] "I don't think it went in too deep. The advantages of layers of tweed. Better than kevlar."
Brief History: Like Buffy, he was reluctant to take up the mantle of his destiny and become a Watcher. However, tradition and a very English sense of duty won out and now Giles, faced with personal and professional disasters, struggles to help Buffy with her duties and the mental pressures inherant to slaying vampires and other baddies.
Name: Xander Harris
Age: 17
Gig: High school student, Slayerette
Friends: Buffy Summers, Willow Rosenburg, Oz, Rupert Giles.
Significant Other: Cordelia Chase
Best Line: "All right! Someone else's loss is my chocolatey goodness." , " A black eye heals, Buffy, but cowardice has an unlimited shelf life." or "Do you mind? I'm trying to repress."
Brief History: Once an unpopular geek, Xander has become a 'best bud of the Slayer', and thusly gained a whole new persona as he was possessed by a hyena, propositioned by a giant preying mantis, and almost killed by his ex-Inca Mummy girlfriend. His flip comments, however, always lend a light atmosphere to almost any terrible situation.
Name: Willow Rosenburg
Age: 17
Gig: High school student, Slayerette, computer hacker, substitute teacher
Friends: Xander Harris, Buffy Summers, Cordelia Chase, Rupter Giles
Signifcant Other: Oz
Best Line: "Once again, I've been banished to the demon section of the card catalog."
Brief History: Willow was once a deeply shy computer geek who crushed hard on her best friend Xander. That all changed when she became friends with the Slayer, Buffy Summers. Now, Willow has matured a little, found a new place in the world, and lost her affection for Xander.
Name: Cordelia Chase
Age: 17
Gig: High school student, reluctant Slayerette, and if being popular was a career, it'd be here
Friends: Any of the Cordettes, Buffy Summers, Willow Rosenburg, Rupert Giles, Oz
Best Line: "Willow, nice dress. Glad to know you've seen the softer side of Sears." , "'I aspire to help my fellow man.' Check. As long as he's not smelly, dirty, or something gross."
Brief History: Cordy was once a terminal bitch, mean to Buffy, Xander, and Willow. Her main concern in life was to be the most popular girl in school. Lately, though, she's become a little more human. She dates Xander, and while she's still sort of an airhead, she's improved a lot.
Name: OzBrief History: First a guitarist in a band, The Dingos Ate My Baby, he fell in love with Willow, and is now a Slayerette. Oh, and he recently became a werewolf.
Name: Angel aka Angelus
Age: 241
Gig: Vampire
Friends: Buffy, Willow, Giles, Spike and Drusilla
Significant Other: Buffy
Best Line: "I know what you're thinking, but don't worry, I don't bite!"
Brief History: Born in 1757, Angel became a vampire at the tender age of 20. For a hundred and twenty years, he was a typical vamp: a vicious, bloodthirsty animal.
Then, in 1898, he fed off a Romani gypsy girl, beloved of her tribe. The gypsy Elders cursed Angel with a soul, so that he would feel guilty for his crimes. Angel relocated to America, and never fed off another human for the next 80 years. Angel spent most of that time being a tortured soul. He then moved to California, and feel in love with Buffy.
Name: Spike, aka William the Bloody
Age: 200
Gig: Vampire
Friends: Drusilla, Angelus, Buffy [very recently] and the Slayerettes, I guess
Significant Other: Drusilla
Best Line: [looking at stone statue] "It's a big rock. Can't wait to tell my friends. They don't have a rock this big."
Breif History: Spike was made into a vampire by Angel, back when Angel did that sort of thing. He turned up in Sunnydale with the slightly crazy Drusilla, Angel's past flame and Spike's current love. An accident had confined Spike to a wheelchair, but he recently made a stunning recovery.
Name: Drusilla
Age: over 200 years old, I think
Gig: Vampire
Friends: Spike, Angelus
Significant Other: Spike, and Angelus there for a little while
Best Line: "We're going to destroy the world. Want to come?" , [To Angelus] "Where have you been? The sun is almost up, and it can be so hurtful." , "I'll sleep naked. Like the animals."
Brief History: Drusilla was your typical English girl until Angelus showed up and killed her family, making her insane. Dru fled to a convent, and on the day she took her holy orders, Angel made her a demon, a vampire. Since then, Drusilla's been hanging 'round Spike and making trouble for the Slayer.
Okay, so near the middle of the second season, Angel and Buffy did the dirty deed, and Angel lost his soul. He became an evil vamp again, [Angelus] and hooked up with old pals Spike and Drusilla. Spike started to hate the new-and-improved Angel as Angelus seemed to be moving in on Drusilla.
Anyway, to make a long story short, Angel found a way to suck the world into Hell, Spike did a Benidict Arnold and joined Buffy's team, and there was a huge battle. Plus, Willow found a way to restore Angel's soul (lost when he and Buffy made love) and Buffy and Angel had a few teary moments before she sent him to Hell. He'll be back next season, have no fear. The year ended with Buffy on a bus, headed out of Sunnydale. What's up for the future?
