Timothy Dalton

THE BOND ACTORS

TIMOTHY DALTON

Born: March 21, 1946

007 flicks: The Living Dayligts, License to Kill

As Bond: Dalton's style of playing Bond was very serious, and sharply contrasted the charming, smiling Roger Moore. Being a former Shakespearian actor, perhaps he was just a tad too dramatic. He did, however, closely resemble Ian Fleming's James Bond, who didn't seem to have a sense of humor at all. He tried to go back to Connery's serious roots but went a little too far. Still, he was OK. I love that car chase in "The Living Daylights" where he cut the other guy's car off with a laser. "License to Kill" had Bond making a choice between two women in the end of the movie, which had never happened. Usually one of his girls turned out to be evil or died (or both) and Bond choose the girl who wasn't evil and stayed alive. Pierce Brosnan's films, thank goodness, have not done the same thing.

Post-Bond Career: Dalton really is a good actor, just not the best 007. He was in "The Beautician and the Beast" with Fran Drescer (who looks as good as any Bond girl), and has been in several Shakespeare productions onstage, in such roles as Petruchio and Mark Antony. One of my favorites is the movie "Agatha", where he plays Archibald Christie, Agatha Christie's first husband with Vanessa Redgrave and Dustin Hoffman.
