The big, menacing man behind the desk of Homicide is really not so menacing at all, once you
get to know him. He may cause people to quake when he barks orders and can intimidate even the
coldest killer with his icy glare, but at heart he is family man, not just in the sense of his
three children but the Homicide unit itself. He feels personally responsible for his detectives,
and feels personally hurt when he feels he can't protect them (like when three detectives are
shot, or when Kellerman is being indicted for suspicious practices.)
