Bayliss begins Season 1 as the new guy who partners up with Pembleton. Bayliss is emotional and sensitive. He needs companionship, and frequently laments the lack of a feeling of "family"�in the Homicide unit. His first case, the slaying of a young child, haunts him throughout the years. It later is revealed that Bayliss was sexually molested by an uncle. The end of Season 6 left Bayliss in the hospital, recovering from gun shot wounds. With Pembleton retired, Bayliss is now partnering with Munch. He now spends most of his time exploring his sexuality and preaching Zen.
