Directed by John Huston and written by W.R. Burnett(novel), Ben Maddow and John Huston, The Asphalt Jungle stars Sterling Hayden and Louis Calhern. Marilyn is cast as Calhern's "niece", Angela Phinlay, (the word mistress is appropriate here but unusable in the films of the 50's). It was really the movie that finally launched Marilyn into the public eye as well as the eyes of the studios as a potential box office attraction. Marilyn herself often referred to her performance in this movie as one of her finest dramatic portrayals.
FACTS: The movie received four Oscars in 1951!
