The Promise Part 11

****The Next Day****

The church was very still and quiet. It was 4:00pm and it was a very gloomy day for everyone. The skys were dark blue and the clouds were gray. The wind was blowing furiously and the weeds and trees swayed back and forth, tapping on the church's windows.

The funeral was very short and simple. Not many people attended the ceremony, but for those that did, they were all weeping for Max to come back. Max may not be very popular and have not very many friends, but she did have to bestest friends. AJ noticed the same kids that were playing in the streets were there sitting in the front row. You could here a soft Christian hymn being played on an organ.

As everyone started walking out of the church, Howie felt the first rain drop fall on his head. He quickly rubbed his hair and turned to AJ. His scowl quickly turned into a sad frown. "Hey, man."

"Hi," AJ replied, not looking up.

"You guys coming?" asked Kevin, softly. He was standing next to their black stretch limo with the chauffeur holding a black umbrella over his head. Brian buttoned his front button of his black suit which kept unbuttoning. Nick wiped off the dampness on top of his black hat and placed it back on his slicked back hair. They headed towards the limo but looked back over their shoulders to see AJ and Howie just standing there.

"Um," said Nick.

"You guys go ahead," AJ said. "I'll get a cab to the hotel later."

"You sure? Cabs don't come by here often," said Brian, doubtfully.

AJ managed to put on a smile on his darkened face. "I'm sure. See you later."

"Want me to stay with you?" asked Howie. AJ shook his head and gently pushed the Latin-Lover to the waiting vehicle. AJ stood under the roof of the church and watched the limo silently pull out of the drenched parking lot.

'The rain sure is pouring now,' he thought. 'I wonder why.' He was being sarcastic, of course. He walked back into the silent and empty church. The hymn was still playing on the organ. He sighed and walked down the aisle towards the beautiful decorated alter. It was covered with white lily's and roses. And right smack in the middle, was a shiny white coffin with gold lining. He walked up to it and stared down. He placed his shaking hand on top of it and tears rolled down his cheeks.

"You promised," he whispered, still looking at the coffin with blurred vision because of the flowing tears. "You promised not to leave me." He wiped his tears away and bent over. His lips gently kissed the top of the brand new coffin. He picked up a white rose and placed it where he kissed it. "I love you, Max," he said softly. "I'll miss you forever. Peace, Baby."

THE END!
