The Nick Carter Miracle Chapter 9

written by: Sarah Stackhouse

I was the last one to wake up that morning. When I woke up, no one was in there but me. I sat up in my sleeping bag, and looked around. The clock read 11:35. There was a note on the closed door. I got up and read it: SARAH-WE ARE DOWNSTAIRS. COME DOWN WHEN YA GET UP AND YOU CAN HAVE SOMETHING TO EAT--BJ. For the first few minutes I was awake, I had totally forgotten what had happened the night before. But I quickly remembered as I walked down the stairs and heard Dawn say, "Hiiiiii, Sarah!!!" She said it in that lovey-dovey way. I just smiled and rubbed my eyes. They were all in the kitchen. Leslie was dressed, and the rest of us were in our pajamas. BJ was fixing a bagel and Leslie and Dawn were sitting at the table. "Mornin, Sarah, you want a bagel?" BJ asked me. "Yeah, thanks. Do you have cream cheese?" I said. "Yup, you want some?" "Yeah, thanks." I sat down in front of Leslie. "Good morning, Sarah," Leslie said with an evil grin. "Oh shut up," I said and put my head down on the table. "Did you sleep okay?" BJ asked me. "Yeah, I sure did. Your floor is a lot more comfortable than some other floors I've slept on." She laughed. She handed me my bagel and sat down next to me with hers.

"So, is, umm....Nick up yet?" I asked. "No, he might be asleep for about another hour," BJ said with a smile. "I thought we might go swimming out back today, since it's so hot out." "Wait, I didn't bring a bathing suit," I said. "That's okay, you can borrow one of mine. I have about 7 of em." "Okay, it seems like a nice day to go swimming," I said. Just then I heard footsteps coming down the stairway. Leslie looked above my head then back down at me and smiled. I knew then who it was. I didn't look behind of me, but I heard Nick walk into the kitchen. He walked by me towards the fridge. "Morning girls," he said groggly. He was wearing a blue t-shirt, boxers, and socks. His hair was kinda messed up, and that made him look cute. "Wow, you're up early," BJ said to him. He said a quiet 'yup' and got some milk. I just looked at him, thinking about that kiss. He turned around, still holding the milk and smiled a shy smile at me. I smiled back at him. Dawn nudged me from underneath the table, and I kicked her back and gave her a look. "Hey Nick, you wanna go swimming with us today?" BJ said. "Well, Brian is comin over today," he said. "Well, tell him to bring a swim suit." "Okay. He mentioned he wanted to go swimming yesterday. I'll call him." He walked out of the kitchen. "Oh man..." I said, sighing and resting my chin on my arm. "I think Sarah is love-struck," said Leslie. "I think Cupid shot her in the butt," said Dawn. "Maybe she should arrange her wedding date," said BJ. "Geez, guys c'mon!" I said. "Okay, well, maybe not..." said BJ. We all laughed.

We finished our bagels and went upstairs to change into our bathing suits. BJ gave me a blue two-piece to wear, and I went into the bathroom to change. I guess I took the longest, cuz the girls went ahead and went outside. I walked downstairs in shorts and a tank top, looking for them. I walked around, then into the kitchen to find Nick sitting down, talking on the phone. He covered up the receiver, and looked up at me as I walked in. "Oh, uh hi, where did the girls go?" I said nervously. I noticed he looked at me in BJ's suit. "Hi, they went out back, you can just go out that door and down the stone steps and you'll find the pool," he said, pointing at the glass door. I could tell he was shy. "Okay, thanks," I gave him a friendly smile and he just gave one right back to me. I walked out the door and down the stone steps to their HUGE pool.

"HEY!" I yelled at them, they were already in the pool. All except Dawn, she was laying out getting a tan. BJ got out of the pool and came up to me. "Hey Beej? Is Nick usually shy around girls?" I asked her. Dawn jumped up when I said that. "WHY??? What did he say?!!?" Dawn said, coming up to me. "Whoa, calm down..." I said. "Yeah, he's extremely shy around girls. So if you find out that he is kind of ignoring you, that doesn't mean anything. That just means he likes you," said BJ. "Okay." "Let's get in the pool! It's hotter than heck out here!" Dawn said. I took off my shorts and tank top and jumped into the pool. The water was nice and we splashed around.

I didn't remember until that day that they had a dog. A golden lab named Simba that always stayed outside. I had read about his pets in various magazines. I got a real workout that day. I raced each one of the girls several times, and only lost to Dawn because she was on the swim team. We were just cooling off in the pool when I heard someone yell. "Wasssuuuuuuuuuuuuuuppp!!" It was AJ, walking down with Brian and Nick.
