Life Has Good Times - And Bad Part 6

I heard the audience clap loudly after the third contestant. She was really good. I peeked through the curtains to see my friends looking worried. I knew then that it was over, I didn't have a chance.

"Contestant number four!" the stage lady hissed at us quietly. Corissa walked to the stage. While she passed me, she looked at me with total confident in her eyes which really frightened me.

"Just listen to my voice, Nicole," she whispered and skipped onto the stage. How corny. I heard the music playing and recognized the tune. 'OH NO!' I thought with disgust. 'That's my song!' I paced back and forth until I felt a tapping on my shoulder.

"Nicole?" Mary Sanders said. I looked at her, startled. "You're number six, right?" I nodded. She pointed towards the stage and said, "It's your turn." My eyes widened.

"What?!" It couldn't be! Number five didn't go. But I found out, she already went. Ooh, I wanted to punch that number five in the jaw. I smiled weakly and let out a deep breath. I heard my name echoeing throughout the theater and loud clapping and whistling. I pulled my head up high and cleared my throat. 'Here goes everything,' I thought. I walked slowly up onto the stage and took my place at the microphone.

I heard the music start and looked out into the crowd. I must've looked pretty nervous because I saw Katy, Catherine, and Alexis waving to me. Alexis mouthed to me, "Don't be nervous. Remember what I said." I smiled and sang with all my might.

"My heart will, go on, and on!" I spread my arms out and finished with my face sweaty and my body aching and shaking. Panting, I took my bow as I heard clapping and shouting and whistling, and I looked up and saw the whole theater was standing up on their feet! I smiled and sighed releived this was over. I waved to the crowd and took another bow as the stage lady told me to. I walked off the stage knowing that I did great. I partly knew it because Corissa had a sour look on her face. A few girls who were in the contest already ran up to me firing compliment after compliment. I said thanks and gulped down 2 cups of water. I collapsed in a chair and grinned.

"You did so wonderfully!" shrieked Katy. "I am so proud of you, girl." We were sitting outside in the picnic area with cokes, waiting for the judges to make their big decision which was hard. "I know! You panicked and I slapped you for no reason at all!" Catherine shouted. I laughed. "I'm just so happy this thing is over!" I yelled as I threw my fists in the air. I looked at Alexis. She just stared at me admiring everything I had, especially my voice. I smiled at her which sent her a message saying thanks. We know each other that way. We drank the rest of our cokes and threw the cans away (although Alexis threw hers in the recycling bin) just in time to hear some people saying it was time to go in. All my friends crossed their fingers and we all walked in, hoping and praying.
