"What is this?" I asked. I waited for an answer but remembered that they wouldn't be talking. Brian started making hand motions. He rubbed his tummy and licked his lips. I burst out laughing. It was so hilarous looking at him! But Howie chose the easier way. He opened the bag and pulled out a hamburger from McDonald's.
"Oh," I said still laughing. We sat there, munching away at the coke, fries, and burgers set out in front of us. Afterall, we didn't eat anything all day. We were all quiet. It wasn't silent though. We could hear the fans out there screaming their heads off and the crew members hustling by. But none of us spoke a word. Just chewed and chewed like bored cows out in the pasture. I looked over at AJ and he looked like he was gonna freak out. He looked nervous for some reason. I put my hand on his shoulder.
"What's wrong, buddy?" He looked at me. He all of a sudden, threw his double quarter-pounder with cheese sandwich on the table and stood up.
"I can't take it anymore!" He yelled. Everyone gasped. He smiled and continued.
"I need a conversation while I'm eating!" The whole backstage roared with laughter. All the crew members, managers, dancers, including me and the boys couldn't help it! Keven started laughing so hard while chewing, he choked and coughed for a while. Howie was drinking when AJ said that, so he splattered coke all over the place. Finally when everyone calmed down (a bit), Brian was lying on the floor with his face all red, Kevin lying back in his chair still coughing, Howie wiping off his clothes, Nick on the floor holding his sides, still laughing, and AJ standing triumphantly on the table with his hands on his hips. As for me, I was curled up in a corner of the couch holding my sides since they were aching so much. AJ looked around the room. He threw his fist in the air and said,
"MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!" We all laughed again. I pulled on AJ's pants with my left arm and still held my sides with my right.
"Come on, AJ. Stop it. I'm gonna puke soon," I groaned. He grinned at me and got down. Donna came running in.
"You guys done?" They nodded. She pointed to the stage. "The fans are about to go crazy. It's already packed so I think it'll be a better idea if you went on." Brian sighed. Nick smiled. Howie shrugged. AJ rubbed his hands together. Kevin stood up.
"Come on guys. Let's get with the program." They all followed him.
"Yes, Father," Brian joked. Kevin glared at him but playfully whacked him on the shoulder. They all started to walk towards the stage where the curtain was down and the band was waiting. I heard a door squeak open, and Nick stopped suddenly.
"Ow, man!" AJ complained. He was walking right behind Nick, so since Nick stopped, AJ ran right into him. Nick didn't say a word, he just stood there like a stone, staring at something. Howie ran over to him and waved his palm in his face. He didn't blink, not even once. We all looked over to the direction where Nick was staring, and where I had heard the door open. Standing in the doorway, was a girl. A girl about my age, 17 or 18. Long, silky, shiny, blond hair clipped up into a bun. You could tell she was wearing some make-up, not that much though. Just a little blush, eye shadow, and maybe some lip-stick. She was well-built, nice and slim too. She looked like someone who should be in a Covergirl commercial, you know what I'm sayin'? I had to admit, she was downright pretty. Maybe that's why Nick was staring (with the guys following his lead), and jealousy grew stronger inside of me.
Suddenly Nick shook out of his trance and walked over to her. He smiled a smile which would melt anyone's heart. It must've worked for that girl. She started crying. Nick took her into a hug and calmed her down. When they were all ok, he smiled again.
"Hi, I'm Nick. What's your name?" She shyly smiled.
"I'm Katie Hess," she replied. I kind of jumped, but only kind of. The other boys exchanged grins while Nick flirted away.
"Oh, so you're Katie?" Nick asked. I rolled my eyes. 'He does a poor job of flirting,' I thought to myself. I think Kevin caught me acting sour about all this, so he put his arm around my shoulder, to make me feel better I guess. It didn't work, but it was really nice of him to think of it. Katie looked puzzled.
"Yeah, how did you know?" Nick explained, they laughed, had a good time, flirted some more, and Nick introduced everyone while Katie squealed at everyone. When he pointed to me, he smiled.
"And that's, our touring buddy, Nicole." I put on the best smile I could and extended my hand. She politely grabbed my hand and pulled me towards her. She whispered in my ear,
"Wow, you are so lucky to be on tour with the Backstreet Boys!" I smiled, pretending of course.
"I know, pretty cool, huh?" She nodded.
"EVERYONE FREEZE!!!!" We all turned around. Donna was standing in the doorway, looking very displeased. "No more stalling, ok? The fans are getting very aggressive with security. You can do your little meet-and-greet after the show like always. Get your butts moving, NOW!!!" She yelled. The boys put their hands up in the air and hustled out the door.
