"But why?"
"He's seeing someone else, and guess what her name is?" Brian and Nick stared blankly at me. I made a disgusted face and said, "MONICA." The boys started groaning and make gagging sounds.
"Is her last name 'Lewinsky'?" asked AJ as he walked into our conversation.
"What are you doing here?" I demanded.
"Do you mind if I get some ice for my drink?" he asked, sarcastically. I giggled and decided to answer his question.
"How should I know? Probably is though."
"Man," said AJ as he opened the ice box. "That ain't right. That girl needs to be watched at all times, she's breaking happy couples up."
"Look on the bright side," Nick said grinning. "At least now you're free and you can lay your eyes on ANY guy you want to."
I looked strangely at him. "I guess so....but is that supposed to make me feel any better?"
Nick shrugged. "It will later."
"Nick's right, and that's pretty scary," said BJ as she grinned at Nick who stuck his tongue out at her. "When Steve and I broke up, I felt like I just wanted to crawl into a hole and die. But now, I feel good since I don't feel guilty when I check out other guys."
I sighed. "You're right. I guess I should be happy."
"Hey, why's everyone in here?" I turned around and I saw Kevin, Colleen, Howie, Noelle, Katie, Vonnie, and Kali standing at the kitchen entrance.
"Naw," said Brian, shaking his head. "NOW everyone's in here."
I smiled. "I agree, there's too many people in this house!"
"Not to mention Tim should be coming soon, with his soon-to-be bride," commented Howie. I squinted my eyes.
"Soon-to-be what??"
Howie looked puzzeled. "Bride, his soon-to-be wife."
Kevin looked curious too. "Didn't you know, Nicole?"
"And he never told me?" I started to get angry. What was wrong with Tim? He used to tell me everything! And it's no excuse since we're like thousands of miles away, he could've called me.
"Are you mad he's engaged?" wondered Katie.
"I AM!" exclaimed Vonnie. We all laughed.
"I'm not mad he's ENGAGED....but he didn't even tell me. And Mom was keeping it from me. Something's not right here," I said aloud. "And how did you guys know and I didn't?"
"We got to be good friends," explained Howie.
"Yeah, he's a great guy to be around," agreed Brian.
"Sure is," said Vonnie dreamily. I rolled my eyes and laughed.
"Vonnie, you're JUST like my friend Stacey. She was so obsessed with Tim, it wasn't even funny! She talked about him all the time and whenever he's around, she forgets about me and just talks with him." I looked up at the ceiling, and then at the phone. "Speaking of Stacey....I miss my old friends."
"What, didn't you talk to them?"
"Not since that night in the hotel."
"Whoa....that was a LONG time ago."
"Sure was. Hey, do you know what Tim's fiance's name is?"
Howie thought for a minute. "It starts with an A, I know that...."
"It's Alexis," said Nick.
Howie snapped his fingers. "Yeah! Alexis!"
My mouth dropped open. "Alexis?" They all nodded. "No way, man. She couldn't have. She wouldn't have. THIS IS NOT TRUE!"
"What's wrong?" asked Katie.
"Alexis! Ohmigosh! Hold on!" I ran up to my room, grabbed my address book, and ran back down. I was out of breath, but I quickly opened the book and dialed numbers onto the telephone. I sat there, breathing heavily while everyone stood around, observing me curiously.
"Hello, Mrs. McCarthy? Hi! This is Nicole Cartland," I said into the telephone as politely as I could. I listened without much interest as Alexis' mom babbled on and on. Finally, she paused long enough so I could speak. "Yes, it has been a long time. Um, by any chance, is Alexis there?"
"Alexis? Here?" Mrs. McCarthy asked in a puzzeled voice.
"Yes...or is she still in the dorm?"
"She's on the way to your house, silly thing! She's with your brother," she laughed. I stared into space. "Hello? Nicole, are you still there, child?"
"Oh, yes. I'm sorry. Thank you, yes, thank you. I'll say hi to her for you. Uh-huh. Buh-bye!" I quickly hung up the phone.
"Well? What happened?" Kali asked.
"It's true," I whispered. "The girl who once despised my older brother, is now marrying him? Whoa. Miracles can happen."
