Katie sat awake, not able to sleep. It was 2 in the morning and she knew that Brian wouldn't check up on her for another hour or so. She thought about some more routines that she had to teach the guys. She sat in bed and thought she heard a weird noise coming from her window, but she knew that her window was near a tree so she didn't think anything of it, until she heard the loud grunt of a man coming into her bedroom. He grabbed her before she could scream. He tied tape around her mouth and carried her out the window to a large white van that they shoved her into. She tried to scream but nothing came out.
They drove her to a large warehouse and shoved her into a tiny room with a disgusting bathroom. All the windows were hammered shut so they knew that she wouldn't be able to get out. They didn't say one word to her, they just untied her and threw her on the bed. She could see at heavyset black man, a women and another man. They looked scared, not sure what they were going to do with her, the definitely looked like they had never done anything like it before. Katie could hear that they lived in the building, their living room was outside her room and the bedrooms seemed to down the hall. She could hear them making some phone calls, but couldn't hear what they said. She paced the room, not saying anything for fear that the could hurt her. She just waited.
The first time they came in was to give her breakfast. Katie didn't have her watch and she couldn't look outside, so she had no idea what time it was. She said nothing to him, ate the stale toast and paced some more, thinking about all the things she could have done differently.
She should have been nicer and funnier to be with, she should have told Brian what he really meant to her. She should have spent more time with Lauren, there was so many things that she could think of that before she new it she was interrupted and served dinner. Katie guessed that it was around one o'clock or so, but she wasn't sure, and she didn't want to ask. She thought some more, cried quietly and waited, listening to the kidnappers outside her door. She couldn't exactly hear much, but she did hear:
"Ten thousand."
"No, one hundred thousand."
"No way!" the woman had said, "Those guys are rich and if this girl means a
lot to them the will give us 10 MILLION!" she screamed and cackled in
laughter. The guys told her to hush up and laughed along with her. They
could finally be rich, they could actually be happy and live in a house like
normal people.
Katie guessed that two days had passed, the cycle of meals were regular. They gave her something small for each meal, but she was glad that they at least fed her. She noticed that the longest time was between dinner and breakfast, everything was quiet and Katie got very lonely and paced. She had gotten no sleep and she was trying her hardest to think of an escape plan.
Brian's Point of View
He got up at his usual time to check up on her, it was around 3:30. He walked over to her door and opened it and peered in and look nervously around the room, she wasn't there. He looked in the bathroom and then all around the rest of the house, waking everyone up in the process.
"What's the matter, B-Rok?" Howie asked, still half asleep. "She is gone, Katie, she is gone." He said, looking tense. "Maybe she went for a walk," Kevin answered, standing next to his cousin. "No Train, she knows I check on her around this time of day," he said, looking as if he was going to cry. "Don't worry about it, Frick," Nick said and everyone went back to sleep, except for Brian. He walked around the house and new that something was wrong, but he didn't know what.
By 5:30 the next day everyone was getting a little nervous, she never did this to them, and she seemed like she was really happy before the incident. Brian called the police but they said it had to be 48 hours that she was missing. Brian was furious and as if in response, the phone rang.
"Mr. Littrell?" a muffled voice said. It was clearly a man's voice, but it sounded like he had a towel over the mouthpiece of the phone. "That is me," he said, annoyed by the sound of the man's voice. "I have your girlfriend..." He said through a wave of laughter. "Who are you? WHERE ARE YOU?" He screamed and everyone looked at him, not knowing what to expect. "I'm not telling...ha,ha,ha....you will get her back if you give me 10 mil by Thursday," which was five days away. "Ten MILLION DOLLARS! Are you kidding?" He screamed as he began to cry. "I guess she doesn't mean that much to you, I can easily get rid of her if you want." He said as he laughed. "No! I can do it, when and where?" He said nervously. The man told him to leave it in an alley, he told him the exact location and that he better do it by Thursday, no police or anyone should know about it or she would be dead.
He hung up on the man and told everyone about what he had said. "They kidnapped her and they want 10 million dollars, 10 MILLION DOLLARS! Can you believe this? I am calling the police," he cried as he called them and they immediately came over and put a tap on the phone and questioned each person. Brian and Lauren were the most upset, they looked like they were going to have a heart attack, and they were all worried that Brian would get sick. They talked to the police and had guards standing at the doors and waiting for the phone to ring, but it never did.
The next day the commissioner of the Orlando Police Department came in and gave them the sad news. "We have a positive ID. on the remains of a young woman that we found up in Tampa, I am so sorry," he said and told them that the guards would stay for a couple more weeks and make sure that everything would be okay. "100% Positive?" Lauren asked as she burst into tears and held onto Nick. "Of course there is always that .1% chance, but I would definitely not count on it." Everyone cried and decided to plan the funeral for Thursday, the day that everyone thought they would get her back.
