Sci Fi Cancels 'The Chronicle'

LOS ANGELES - The Sci Fi Channel is ending its subscription to "The Chronicle." The cable network announced that it will not renew the series, which will air its last episode on Friday, March 22.

"'The Chronicle' was a good show with a talented cast and creative production team that unfortunately didn't find the audience it deserved," says Sci Fi President Bonnie Hammer on the network's website, SciFi.com.

Helping to make up for the loss, Sci Fi will premiere its new original miniseries "Firestarter: Rekindled" in March.

In addition, the network has ordered a new season for "Farscape" and will be airing exclusive original episodes of Showtime's "Stargate SG-1" this summer. It is also planning on airing the original movie "Riverworld" and the 10-part Steven Spielberg miniseries "Taken."

"Sci Fi is increasing its commitment to original programming in 2002 and 2003, with a development slate of series, movies and miniseries that reflect the current mass popularity and broad appeal of the sci-fi genre," adds Hammer.

"The Chronicle," which premiered last July, centered on a tabloid newspaper in which all the over-the-top stories were true. The series stared Chad Willett, Rena Sofer, Reno Wilson, Curtis Armstrong and John Polito. It was originally developed for NBC, but moved to Sci Fi after the broadcast network passed on the pilot.

I liked the show but lost track of it when Sci Fi changed the air time. Oh, well. Maybe Rena can get back on Ed.
