Aaron Spelling speaks out on the cancellation of The Place From the February 3rd TV Guide Online:

Papa Spelling Praises His Kids

When it comes to naming his favorite actors, superproducer Aaron Spelling keeps things in the family.

In our TV Guide Awards chat Monday night, Spelling said he most enjoyed working with "the entire cast of 7th Heaven, including Happy the Dog." A totally understandable answer, considering the WB series had just won the award for Best Show You're Not Watching.

But Papa Aaron couldn't hide his pride in his famous offspring for long. "My dual favorite would be Tori Spelling in 90210 and Randy Spelling in Sunset Beach," he said. "That's an answer from the heart."

The mastermind behind shows from The Love Boat to Melrose Place also gave a mention to his spouse. Asked what his all-time favorite project was, Spelling replied, "My wife Candy." Awww. Susan Campbell Beachy

Here's what TV Guide didn't tell you he said in the chat when he was asked about the cancellation of The Place:

"When a show goes seven years and 239 episodes in seven years, it... it really... it's... the cost of the show becomes prohibitive. And, uh, I really, I wasn't upset when I got the phone call." With a big smile, he added, "That's a fuckin' LIE!"

Of course, KTTV's FOX11 News bleeped out the "fuckin'" part from the broadcast.
