My comments on the July 27th episode of The Place
Hi guys:

Sorry this is late. I worked 16 hours on a new Spelling show, "Buddy Faro," after only 3 hours of sleep. So when I got home, I nodded off while watching the show. I must have been really tired because I couldn't stay up for a good episode.

It started off with Amanda and Rory's cab headed to their hotel in the Dominican Republic. They pause at a stretch of beach where Amanda reminisced about a romantic encounter with Kyle there. I noticed that she was wearing leather pants. Now I've never worn leather pants, but I can't imagine how comfortable they'd be considering the ride was over an hour, it didn't seem like the cab had AC because the windows were rolled down and the Dominican Republic is a sub-tropical island in the West Indies with an average temperature of 77.3 degrees Fahrenheit (25.2 Celsius) and 75% humidity.

Back at The Place, Kyle paid a visit to Jennifer where he complained about the Taylor/Christine and Amanda/Rory situations while Jen lamented about the Billy/Samantha/Jeff situation. Neither of them had been actually paying attention to the other. Just like a married couple.

Samantha was on the phone with Amanda's painter when Billy walked in. She thought he flashed her a look because she suspected he suspected it was a call from Jeff. Andrew Shue's look of suspicion looked remarkably like his look of surprise, his look of anger, his look of joy, his look of fear, his look of sadness, his look of...

At the hotel, Rory received a phone call from his stock broker informing him he needed to fork over $50,000. Angry with this news, he slammed the phone down after screaming, "to hell with you," sounding very much like a spoiled teenager who'd just been grounded.

Kyle's restaurant must not be doing too well. The three people that were always waiting for a table in the establishing shot were gone. In their place was a solitary woman.

Jennifer agreed to help Kyle by having a chat with Taylor to try to get her to spill the beans about the Christine incident. She bounded down to the restaurant where the two of them had a friendly conversation. Since when did they become such good buddies? Neither of them ever had any kind words for the other.

Billy opened up a letter to Sam from Jeff and read it out loud. It could have turned out to be something kinky, but Billy was outraged. Andrew Shue's look of outrage looked remarkably like his look of suspicion, his look of surprise, his look of anger, his look of...

Down in the Dominican Republic, Amanda and Rory go to a fortune teller who tells Amanda that love will never work for her and what she needs is a friend. I'm pretty sure some of the women I've dated have consulted the same bitch soothsayer. I've gotten the "let's be friends" speech plenty of times.

Billy suspected Sam's business dinner to be another ruse to meet Jeff. He went to the restaurant where he saw her leaving with a couple of old fogies he recognized as business associates. Racked with guilt over his distrust of her, he drove off. Andrew Shue's look of guilt looked remarkably like his look of outrage, his look of suspicion, his look of surprise...

Anyway, Billy should have stuck around. Jeff came driving up and professed his love for Sam. He pulled her close and kissed her. From the look on his face, she didn't kiss him back. Doh! I hate when that happens.

Kyle popped up in the kitchen of the restaurant to see if Taylor was ready to divulge the secrets of the Christine affair. When she didn't, he started to smash things like that chick in the new "this is your brain, this is your brain on drugs" commercial. If you ask me, I think that chick needs to pop a Valium.

Michael got his job back at Burns/Mancini/Cooper and caused Megan to quit. Jennifer got her a job at the Jazz Club. She modelled her form fitting black outfit for Coop. With a beret, she could have looked like a '60s beatnik. Or Monica Lewinsky.

Taylor finally fessed up. She told Kyle the whole story about the fake Christine and how she slept with Nick but only to pump him for information. Well, it turned out he pumped her too. She thought her confession would bring them closer. Instead Kyle blew his top and admitted he knew the baby Taylor was carrying wasn't his. He called her evil and stormed out. She was lucky he didn't punch her in the gut. She then burst into tears, which I thought was really sad. I actually felt sorry for her.

At a session with his shrink, Peter had an epiphany. He stilled loved Amanda and that was the cause of all his problems. Get over her, Petey. Live in the now.

Earlier, Jennifer had told Jeff that she had been boning Billy. So Jeff showed up at The Place and in front of Billy, told Sam. Incensed, she called Billy a hippopotamus and told Jeff to pack her things while she went to Jennifer's apartment to start a girly fight. Meanwhile, Jeff and Billy start a girly fight of their own. They break it off so they can pry the girls off of each other. I was hoping that the guys would have slugged it out longer. At least long enough for the girls to rip each others clothes off.

Billy went off with Jennifer. Jeff offered to take Sam home with him. She turned him down and said she wanted to be alone. She then burst into tears, which I thought was really sad. I actually felt sorry for her.

As Amanda was about to kiss Rory at their wedding ceremony, Kyle burst in to stop it. How romantic. How television.

After calling Michael to say goodbye to her only friend, we saw Taylor checking her lip gloss and fixing her hair in a car with a hose from the exhaust into the passenger compartment. She was trying to commit suicide and wanted to leave a good-looking corpse.

That's it for this episode.

Check out my site for the spoiler for next week's episode, "A Long Way to Tip-A-Rory." Also new there is a story from the LA Times about the new & improved Place. And Kelly Rutherford talked to the LA Daily News about the new & improved Place. Read 'em all at http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/4616/.

'Til next week...
