My comments for the February 22nd episode of The Place
Hi guys:

What an awful episode. It was shows like these that made one pray for cancellation. Thank Buddha our prayers were answered.

Down in Mexico, Ryan and Lexi were discussing possible slogans for the resort they're pitching. They're about to pitch an account and they don't have a presentation ready yet? And that idea they mutually created and thought was great, "Single's Camp," was totally lame. I think the show's writers learned everything they know about advertising from "Bewitched."

Eve was clearing out her dressing room at the club when Amanda walked in. Eve accused Amanda of monopolizing Peter because she can't make it work with Kyle. Amanda slapped Eve. Eve took it like a man. She should have said, "What are you trying to do, tickle me?" I'm sure she was smacked around harder while in prison.

To decide who would get to use their fabulous idea, Ryan suggested a drinking contest. Whoever could drink the most tequila would get to use their fabulous idea. Hey, if drinking prowess was a factor in business decisions, I'd be CEO of Microsoft.

Audrey popped in on Michael at Burns/Mancini. She was feeling horny. But Michael pushed her away. He claimed Jane was on her way over. If she saw them together, it would jeopardize his lawsuit against the hospital. My guess is an alien had taken over Michael's body. They real Michael wouldn't let anything interfere with sex.

The drinking contest was a draw. Ryan and Lexi couldn't determine who owned the idea. So what did they do? They screwed. If the ad biz was really like this, I never would have left it.

The next morning, they were awakened by the maid. They rushed to the morning meeting and arrived just in time to see the account awarded to someone else. That's the one thing they don't teach you in grad school - don't get trashed on tequila the night before a big presentation.

Dr. Visconti spotted Lexi dining alone at the only restaurant in LA, Kyle's. He sauntered over to her and she assumed he was making a play for her. But no. He already had a date. Doh! Lexi's ego must have been shattered.

Amanda went to tell Eve that she would double her salary if she would stay at the club. Why the sudden change of heart? But Eve wasn't home so Peter and Amanda discussed their wavering relationships with their respective spouses. They share a tender moment and hug. Awwww. Ryan's timing was perfect and saw this happen and accused Peter of groping his brother's wife.

From his room in rehab, Kyle called Amanda at AWA. If Alison supposedly had access to a fax machine while she was in rehab, I guess it isn't unreasonable for Kyle to have a phone in his room. Anyway, Amanda's assistant mistook Kyle for Peter and gave him a message meant for Peter. Amanda had told Peter that she would meet him in his apartment.

Eve was performing with Rikki G's band at an after-hours club. These clubs flourish in LA because the legit clubs close at 2AM and last call is 1 and if you're not finished with your drink by 1:45, they take it away. I hate when that happens.

Unfortunately for Eve, the cops raided the club and she was arrested. Fortunately for Eve, her friendly, neighborhood parole officer overlooked her violation and had the charges dropped.

Not willing to bear the expense of a trial, the hospital settled with Michael and Peter gave him a check for $2,000,000. Earlier, Michael had said the price of lawyers alone would cost the hospital $2,000,000. I don't think so. Not even Johnny Cochrane AND Jackie Chiles are worth that much.

Leaving Peter's office, Michael was met with a throng of reporters asking him about the settlement. Yeah, like there's nothing else happening in LA that the media would give a rat's ass about a lawsuit by a non-celebrity. Oh, but since he is one of only two doctors in LA, I guess Michael is a celebrity.

Ryan ran into Lexi when he went to Sterling Conway to look for Megan. They both regretted what had happened south of the border. It seemed like Lexi had given up on the idea that Ryan was Mr. Right.

Michael went to Audrey's hotel room to give her $300,000, her "half" of the settlement. She told him she landed a part in a play. It turned out she wasn't really a nurse, but an actress playing a nurse. Didn't the hospital check her references before they hired her? And how was she able to treat patients and assist in surgery without someone noticing she didn't know what the hell she was doing?

The line of the week goes to Lexi. When Megan asked her why neither she nor Ryan landed the Passion Island account, Lexi said, "I guess the competition was just too stiff."

Ryan confronted Peter with his suspicions that he was having an affair with Amanda. Eve overheard the conversation. She also overheard Peter's phone conversation with Amanda when she told him she just took an EPT and was found out she was pregnant.

So I guess the big news she had for Kyle before his birthday party wasn't that she was pregnant. Just what was the news then? The world may never know.

Eve pretended to be Amanda so that she could get to see Kyle in rehab. She relayed her suspicions about Peter's affair with Amanda to him. Kyle refused to believe it until she told him Amanda was pregnant and it had to be Peter's child because everyone thinks Kyle's shooting blanks.

Audrey had just finished watching the tape she made of her and Michael doing it when what should come on the television? The news report announcing Michael's settlement. Upset that she was gypped out of $700,000, she sent the tape to Peter.

Which made me wonder what her motive was in making the tape in the first place. It didn't seem like she made it as evidence of Michael's infidelity. It seemed like she just liked to watch. Kinky.

Kyle booked from the clinic and tracked Peter down at the club. He was going to kick his ass because he thought Peter had been sleeping with Amanda. Amanda showed up and attempted to break up the fight. In doing so, she was accidently knocked out the window. Splat!

Is she dead? Will she miscarry... again?

Tune in next week for "How Amanda Got Her Groove Back." Personally, I don't think Amanda ever lost her groove. If anyone had lost their groove, it was Lexi. But she found it with Ryan.

Read the spoiler at http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/4616/.

Also new there is an article from the LA Times which said that Andrew Shue has sold his Hollywood home and moved to the East Coast. Does this mean he's given up "actng?"

Soap Opera Update declared Amanda and Kyle one of primetime's hottest couples.

SOU then proclaimed Aaron Spelling a soap star's best friend. He's hired scads of daytime stars for his primetime projects.

And finally, SOU said that Rena Sofer has rejuvenated The Place. I dont't think so. And considering the show is canceled, I don't think Fox thinks so either.

'Til next week...

Stan
