Amiga - The Companies:

• Amiga International Developer of the Amiga OS and the Amiga computer platform. This is the company that owns and licenses Amiga technologies. Now owned by Gateway, this German website is still the only internet presence of the US based corporation.
  
• Gateway 2000 The new parent company of the Amiga, one of the most dynamic PC manufacturers in the industry. Amiga Technologies was recrowned Amiga International and is now a US based company. Gateway 2000 still  has not named an address for the US offices, however, Gateway is presently negotiating for a lease in Vermillion, SD, where they will run a new telemarketting operation that will employ about 100 people. However, Gateway's tight-lipped attitude and lack of engineering experience have us all guessing what they really intend for the Amiga. Only tiny hints about their excitement seem to 'leak' as well placed morsels for Amiga fans.
  
• QuikPak Previously, QuikPak was the official US A4000Tower manufacturer and distributer of the North American Amiga product line including the A4060(T) accelerator. Developer of an Amiga Luggable and the A5050 which utilizes an A4000 motherboard, the Siamese System, and a 150mhz Pentium for optimimum compatibility. Before Gateway suprised us all by buying the Amiga, QuikPak was seen as the frontrunner. Will QuikPak continue as the official Amiga manufacturer and/or distributor, or will it be licensing the technology from now on? I have noticed that their website has dropped all Amiga logos and only references the Amiga name when it mentions it's continued dedication and support to Amiga Users.
  
• Phase 5 has also spent considerable time developing the first Amiga PPC prototypes, code named Walker. Phase 5 are developers of Cybervision64 (3D), a superior 24 bit graphics display card, and superfast Amiga accelerators such as the Cyberstorm `060, and CyberStorm PPC PowerUp boards. Phase 5 became tired of waiting for outcome of the Amiga and started developing it's own solution for the next generation Amigas and has announced that the A\BOX may very well be available next year as Amiga OS capable multiprocessing PPC workstations offering advanced graphics with 3D engine technology and HDTV NLE ready at suprisingly affordable prices. The A\BOX will have capabilities that even SGI won't be able to ignore.
  
• Draco US North American distributer of the Amiga OS 3.1 based, Amiga compatible, Draco video Non-Linear Editing system.
  
• Eagle Computer Products GmbH Officially licensed, Amiga Based 4000TE and 1200TE Tower Systems.
  
• VIScorp had planned on purchasing Amiga Technologies and put out as a full-blooded Amiga based TV set-top box, but after a difficult battle reniged on the deal due to complications and financial hardship.
  
• pios Computer AG has already released Mac OS PPC machines and is interested in licensing the rights for the Amiga OS, or so they have said. They have also talked about developing and releasing a machine that will run the Mac OS, the BeOS, and the p-OS, which will also run on Amigas. The later p-OS is suggested by pios as a successor to the Amiga OS 3.1 .
  
• Sassenrath Carl Sassenrath, "Ex-VIScorp OS Guy" and the primary developer of the world famous Amiga OS has announced that he has already started work on a freindlier, easier to use, and more efficeint machine/OS called REBOL which will run on both Amigas and PCs, initially. Is this new contender for the future?
  
• Motorola Has long provided the processing power that is the heart of the Amiga. Will the next Amiga be a PPC?
  
• digital VIScorp might have sided with DEC's ARM processor (which powered the Acorn) or were they talking to DEC about a possible Alpha based Amiga system? Could Gateway go Alpha?

People Who SHOULD Develop for the Amiga:

• Adobe Systems There is absolutely NO reason that Photoshop, PageMill, and Premiere (and etc.) can't be ported to the Amiga.
  
• MacroMedia Director (& Shockwave/Afterburner), xRes, and Authorware would be invaluable additions to an Amiga toolbox!
  
• Netscape There are three million Amigas. It's a small base, but a devoted one, on the net, downloading the software that they need to stay alive. Currently, ibrowse is the fourth most common browser (as reported by Browser Watch). C'mon, guys, you've already done the 680x0 version! New news... Netscape recognizes the need for an Amiga port, but has not made any other official announcements. They appear to be simply trying to avoid alienating us, but at least they recognize the Amiga as a viable platform (and possible 5% market share) while another major developer (MS) doesn't. IMHO, this is a start. Now wouldn't it be wonderful if Netscape hooked-up with Phase 5's A/BOX and blew the competition right off it's platform? Well, we can dream. ;)
