Carl Freidrich Otto and Maud Ethel Ball
Weber and daughter Elsie.
My great grandfather Otto, came from
Germany around 1880. He was the son of Hermann and Maria Weiss Weber, and
was born in Breslau, Germany, June 2, 1859. He came to the United States
around 1880. He settled in St. Louis, MO after marrying Maude Ethel Ball,
the daughter of Dr. Charles Edward Ball. Maude Ethel was a direct descendent
of Johannes Ball, Chairman of the Committee of Safety, in Schoharie County,
New York, prior to the American Revolution. My grandfather Rudolph Weber,
came to Pulaski County, MO in the early 1920's where he met my grandmother,
Velma Bartlett.
David and Malinda Hale Wilkerson
My Great great grandfather Dave Wilkerson
was the son of Marvel and Eliza Jane Scribner Wilkerson. He was born April
18, 1851. I believe that Marvel may have been one of 12 children born in
or around Hyde Co, North Carolina. Marvel Wilkerson came to Pulaski County
during the middle 1800's. Noah Hampton and David W. Wilkerson also came
to Missouri about the same time. I believe they were all brothers. It appears
Noah went on to Texas, David W. settled in the Dixon area, and Marvel and
his family settled in the Crocker area of Pulaski County. A fourth Wilkerson,
Margarete, a sister to David W. also settled in the Dixon area.
Eli Routh
My great great grandfather Eli Routh
was born December 25, 1852, in Harrison Co, IN to James Nathaniel and Mary
Jane Roberts Routh. He married Lucy Pamela Overby. The settled in the Hancock
area of Pulaski County, during the late 1800's. There are still many Routh
and Overby descendants living in the Crocker area. Eli is a descendent
of Joseph Routh and Mary Redfern Routh, who where from North Carolina.
This family dates back Sir Richard de Surdeval (Routh) who fought at the
Battle of Hastings with William the Conqueror.
William Addison Trower
1811-1888
My ggggrandfather William Addison Trower
left Kentucky in 1840. He was the son of John Wesley and Nancy Robertson
Trower, of Mercer Co, KY. He left a family of doctors and ministers. On
his way he stopped in Indiana and met Mary Keeler. Mary's father forbid
them from seeing each other, so one night William rode by on his horse,
Mary jumped on behind, and to Pulaski Co, MO they came, bringing with them
a sack of clothes, a bible, a shotgun, and a medicine book. I just recently
received from a cousin, the Bible that they brought to Pulaski County in
1841. They settled in an area north of Waynesville, which was called Trower
Hollow. This was the home to William and his family for many years.
Nancy Jane Trower Bartlett
Nancy Jane was born June 29,1 1845,
to William Addison and Mary Trower. She married John Gordon Bartlett, the
brother to my gggrandfather Rueben H. Bartlett. Nancy Jane was know far
and wide for her medicinal capabilities. The medicine book belonging to
her father, helped her for many years deliver babies and help her sick
neighbors. It is said that Nancy traveled many miles on horseback carrying
the medicine book.
John Ward Layman Family
Standing, Ode, Walter, Wade, Jake and
Elizabeth Layman sitting, John Ward Layman
My ggreat great garndfather John Ward
Layman was born in Grayson Co, KY on Decemeber 26, 1839. He married Amanda
Lipscomb, daughter of Wade and Mary Baker Lipscomb. Wade was the son of
Anderson Lipscomb. The Lipscombs settled south east of Crocker, on the
Gasconade River. They built a mill which was named the Lipscomb Mill. After
Wade passed away Mary married William Edward Wheeler. The name of the Mill
was then changed to the Wheeler's Mill. There are many Layman and Wheeler
descendants still living in Pulaski County.
Walter Rollins and Maud Wilkerson Bartlett
My great grandfather Walter Rollins
Bartlett ( Grandpa "B"), was born in Pulaski Co, MO to Rueben Henry and
Alice Trower Bartlett. Maude's father was David W. Wilkerson of Crocker,
MO. Walter's grandfather John M. Bartlett came to Missouri in the early
1800's from Greene Co, KY. John M. Bartlett is a descendent of Robert Bartlett,
that came to the United States on the Ship "Anne", during the early 1600's.
Mary Warren Bartlett, is the daughter of Richard Warren who came to the
United States on the Mayflower. John M. settled in Moniteau Co, then Miller
Co, then moved to Pulaski County, where he remained for several years,
before returning to Moniteau County. Several of the Bartlett boys stayed
in Pulaski County and married daughters of William Addison Trower. The
land homesteaded by the Bartlett's joined the Trower property. A mill built
on the Gasconade River north of Waynesville, by pioneers Johnson and Dulle,
was purchased by the Bartletts and was named the Bartlett Springs Mill.
This mill served that part of the county for many years. About 1915 it
was sold to the Pippin family, and they built a resort called the Pippin
Place. Two former presidents of the United States, Ulyssess S. Grant, and
Franklin Delano Roosevelt, are descendants of the Richard Warren family.
