Getting to the Roots of the Family Tree: The Story of a Saxon Family - Elizabeth M. Tillman. This impressive work, covering over 600 years, is the first detailed history of the Tillman family ever compiled. It contains records of where they lived; pilgrimages on which they went; their involvement in the Peasants' Revolt in Norfolk, Jack Cade's Rebellion in Kent and Riots at Lyme Regis; churchwardens running a money-lending business and concealing it by booking transactions in the names of fictitious cows; and a pilgrimage on which one man stayed with Good King Wenceslas. Most of the time period covered by this work is prior to 1837, and required extensive research in church registers and city and county archives. The book covers six centuries of transcriptions and translations of original records, the locations of which are included. This Turner family lived in Fauquier and Shenandoah counties, VA; Licking Co., OH; Scotland and Clark counties, MO; Clackamas Co., OR; and Columbia Co., WA. The Modified Register system is used for the genealogy and all statements are fully documented in notes at the end of each chapter. There is significant information included on the allied lines of Brown, Cooke, Crown, Martin, and Smith.
