A Complete Record of the John Olin Family. The First of
that name who came to America in the year A.D. 1678.
Containing an account of their settlement and genealogy up
to the present time-1893. - C.C. Olin. John Olin emigrated
to this country from Wales in 1678. "This young man, only
14 years old, came to America by compulsion, having been
captured by a British man of war on the coast of Wales and
had to work his way before the mast and also had to act as
a powder monkey. On arriving at Boston he deserted and
fled to Rhode Island...now our kindred number over 10,000
and are scattered more or less into every state and
territory in the United States." The appendix contains
reminiscences of the author, an index to the portraits,
and a useful post-office directory, by which the reader
can identify the places of residence of Olin family
members at the time this book was originally published.
