John Goode of Whitby, a Virginia colonist of the 17th century - $42.00 #G1636

The Griner/Flanders Family - Maxine Ellis Griner. This genealogical study of the Griner/Flanders family will be a valuable research aid for those who have or are searching for a connection to one or both of these family names. The patriarchs of these family lines in America are Johann (John) Caspar Greiner and William Flaunders; here the families of both have been traced from the 1700s to the present. John Caspar Greiner was born in Salzburg, Austria, in 1685; he belonged to a group referred to as the Salzburgers who immigrated to America due to religious persecution in Austria. Greiner arrived in Georgia in 1752. William Flaunders was born in Yelling-Hunt, England. His grandson Thomas was the first of the family to come to America, circa 1628, to claim and settle land owned in Virginia which had been passed down from William Flaunders to his son Edward and then to Thomas. Marriage between the Griner and Flanders families connected the two lines in the 19th century. The book is divided into two parts, the first treating the Griner genealogy and the second treating the Flanders genealogy. Genealogical entries comprise the majority of the book. Entries provide whenever possible provide the full names (including maiden names), of the subjects, and their parents, children and spouses. Other information generally provided for each subject includes the birth and death dates and date and location of marriage(s). When available, additional biographical information is supplied, such as records of military service, location of homes and site of burial. While the majority of the entries are dedicated to the Griner/Flanders family, there are a limited number of entries provided for seven allied families: Griffin, Hall, Hancock, Rowe (Roe), Strickland and Vickers. One additional entry is provided for John Robert Moore because he had three sons who married into the Griner family. This book contains an everyname index and a bibliography which will be a great asset to further research within this extensive family. A brief informative history of the Salzburgers before, during and following their migration, up to the American Revolution, prefaces the Griner section. 1997, 124 pp., index, bibliography, paper, $16.00 #ZG636

The Ancestry and Descendants of John Grosvenor of Roxbury, Massachusetts - Richard Grosvenor. The author became interested in his family genealogy through inherited documents and records, and was inspired to update the material on the descendants of John Grosvenor. John Grosvenor's ancestors can be traced back thirteen generations in England to Adam Grosvenor of Shropshire County, England, who lived during the time of Edward I. The book begins with a brief history of the Grosvenor family until 1670, when John went to America and worked as a tanner in Roxbury, Massachusetts. John married Esther Clark, and their children were the first of ten generations of his descendants. These generations include more than 800 people born with the Grosvenor name. John bought property in Connecticut and his family moved there after his death. They soon branched out and many Grosvenors lived in Schoharie and Montgomery Counties of New York and Geauga and Miami Counties of Ohio.

The first generation begins with John Grosvenor. The following information (if known) is given for each individual: birth and death dates, place of birth, vocation and marriage status. Every family member for the entire ten generations is assigned a number, and selected lines are carried through. Also, a list of sources is included and an index of over 2,000 names is provided. 1997, 114 pp., 8.5x11, everyname index, paper, $21.00 #ZG657
