Recollections of Lewis Bonnett, Jr. (1778-1850) and the Bonnett and Wetzel Families - Edited by Jared C. Lobdell. Lewis Bonnett, Jr. was the cousin of Lewis Wetzel. Fourteen years Bonnett's senior, Wetzel lived in his cousin's household while Bonnett was growing up. "Since Wetzel was entirely illiterate, and to the best of our knowledge never dictated any record of his career, the recollections of Lewis Bonnett, Jr., are the closest thing we will ever have to the memoirs of Lewis Wetzel."
The recollections, originally "repetitive and ill-organized" and difficult to read, have here been smoothed out by Mr. Lobdell. He edited with a light hand, however; he "changed neither words nor sentence structure" but did remove "many repetitions" and arranged them into chronological order.
